This video is for everyone who wants to know how to trim (handstrip) an Airedale terrier’s eyebrows to create the desired terrier expression.
There is no set or pre-determined exact length or amount to leave on your terrier, because every terrier is a unique individual with different proportions and head size, so trim to what your dog needs to be as close to the breed standard as possible. We want to achieve the ideal terrier expression; keen, alert and intelligent. Eyes should appear dark, small and not prominent. Using and shaping eyebrows can help us to achieve this goal.
Also beauty is subjective, and what is considered ideal in one person’s eyes may not be desired for another person. I’m merely sharing my personal approach to how I trim my dogs’ eyebrows, other trimmers may use a different method or different tools to achieve the style they like. Everyone can have differing styles they find aesthetically pleasing. So do what you think is best for your own dog.
The metal detailer I used in this video is from greyhoundcomb.com It is called the Detailer. It is very good for creating the separation between the brows and the stop. From the inner corner of the eye socket, create an ultra thin vertical line with this tool pulling very little hairs to make an invisible space between brow and stop.
The 2nd metal stripper I used that has double ends, one end straight and end curved is called the Skipper Stripper. You can find this tool by contacting Skip Begeot on Facebook. I use the skipper stripper to shape the length of brows and to thin out the transition area above the eye lid. I also use fingers if my transition area doesn’t require too much taken out.
The 3rd tool I use is the Mars M320 detailer to clean and tighten the brow bone itself above the transition area.
