My dad was the communications commander for the 102nd back in the 60's and 70's. I would be a little kid and he'd let me out onto the edge of the tarmac and watch them take off. Thanks for bringing this back.

Awesome video. Used to have sixes based at Westover fly over regularly. Was even "boomed" a couple of times during the 60's. AWESOME JET, love the mighy J75. Version slated for the super crusader was to produce 29,500 lbs thrust. Wow.....a pure turbojet that powerful.....how cool!

Nothing sounds like a 6. Especially that low-frequency drone. Brings me back - 84th FIS Castle AFB

Looks like a photo-op flight. T-33 camera plane, F106 formation flight, with the "new guy" (F15) placed in the middle of the pack. Love to see how those came out! They had some beautiful 8x10 shots of the F106 and F15 "paired" in flight for sale at Otis in the 80's, during their transition to the F15, and before air shows were "privatized". Wish I had bought more of them!

I got the chase around a bevy of Delta darts in the backseat of a t33. Was the base photographer at McCord in the 70s. Got a lithograph there of two of them playing around Mount Rainier. It was called freedom's leader. God bless America

Why do people make a normal , cool comment then end it by saying something so cringy as “God bless America”? So cringe🤦♂️

F-106 was hot, elegant continental M2 interceptor from mid-1960s to late 1970s when replaced by F-4 and F-15. Was not equipped for dogfights until after Vietnam.

I worked on the F-101 simulator at Otis in '70-71 when they shut down the 60th FIS. I ended up working on the F-106 sim at Hamilton AFB, CA. Then the base was closed and the 84th FIS was moved to Castle AFB, CA. Then the sim was sent to the Fresno Air Guard and I transferred to Beale AFB on the SR-71 sim.

Otis is not close, now is an Intelligence wing

Indeed. That was the biggest mistake. Perfect facilities and location for intercepts off the coast, so what do they do? Try to close it down, but then when that fails, they move all the birds inland 100 miles. Bloody fools.

Also note the rare two-seat F106 that took a position in front of the F15 on the taxiway. I was told that most of the F106's were converted into target drones. How sad!

I used to challenge F-106 pilots to "shootouts" in the sim. I won more than I lost, because I only knew how the sim flew, which was different from the plane, and I knew how to maximize my advantage. $0.25 per shot. I took a 2nd Lt for $1.25 one day. After that he would not play any more.

Kennedy family did. They didn't like the jet noise. They also didn't like wind turbines spoiling their ocean view, so that who project was shot down.
