No comments yet? That was great information! Wish I would have seen this video a couple of days ago, cuz I was stuck bigger than Dallas yesterday, in just four or five inches of snow. (2018 F-150). I was thinking my old rear wheel drive Ranchero would have got me through it no problem... I am going to have to go play around with that button. I guess I should read the owner's manual. 😅

Double tap it and it puts into sport traction.

Great video. I have a 2019 F 150 with the drive modes like Eco, sport, wet /slippery, tow, normal. Mine also has 2 more modes that I can't seem to find info about. Deep snow/mud, and muddy/ rutted .My truck is an STX, and also has electric diff lock , pro-trailer back up assist, and a few other things that the STX is not supposed to have. Do I have a Frankentruck, or are these just some special options? Thanks for any help.

Do you know if fords traction control system uses the brakes to help off road? (To brake a slipping wheel that may be in the air or in mud and give traction to the other wheel) i have an 18 f150 4wd without locker and i've been trying to find this with no luck, about to go grab the owners manual and hopefully it says something. If i figure it out i'll update... I just want to know before i get myself stuck.

Yup that’s exactly what it does. Uses the brakes and retards engine RPM till you regain traction

I thought it does this when you turn off advanced trac mode

Ive noticed some of the 4wd F150s have "auto", but most of them don't. I understand that setting to be awd basically, which I think would be quite helpful on slick roads. Does AvanceTrac basically do the same thing?

Hey Brad,Great question! From my understanding (and anyone can correct me!) Auto mode is best used in conditions you don’t want 4x4 locked in. Think heavy rain, dusting -2” of snow. That type of stuff. The truck will still primarily operate off the rear wheels but if the advancetrac notices too much slipping it will then enable the transfer case to lock to engage 4x4 till the extra traction is no longer needed. In 2wd mode Advancetrac will only engage / control the rear wheels

Unfortunately, Ford is behind RAM and only offer 4WD-Auto on their Lariat trims in above. RAM, however offers it in their Big Horns as well (equivalent to the XLT).

What about rear locker option?

Hey D G ! Thanks for asking! Not all f-150s have the rear locker. If a truck has it right by the 4x4 knob there will be what looks like a top view of a truck with an X between the rear wheels. To engage the rear locker you “pull” the 4x4 knob out of the dash about 1/4”. There will be a light that comes on the dash to show its engaged. Remember though it’s speed sensitive, I think it will auto disengage about 23 MPH then reengage if you slow down. Also not sure it would be the best in most snow situations… maybe for some good doughnuts 😂

I have a 2015 and you don’t hold the button for 5 seconds…you press the button for 2 seconds twice and it puts it in advance trac sport mode.

Yup I should have mentioned that mode also, sorry I did not. Sport mode would be right between traction control “off” and “advance trac off” feature wise. It gives you some fun but not the full capability of the truck.
