I don't even think I did the Pro Power on Board justice in this video because I was still learning its capabilities. I can imagine powering a small trailer in the boondocks, providing power after a natural disaster, etc. It is a huge, silent power source on wheels.

Great video! That is so nice to have all that power that you can actually use. I wish more EVs would let you tap into the battery like Ford does. In the event of a power outage, that would be very handy to have!!

Tesla, at least on my 2021 Model Y, does not even have a single 120 volt outlet; just two 12 volt outlets that you need to plug an inverter into and they provide very limited amperage. Of course, that battery is only half the size of the trucks battery so its use would be more limited in any case.

You are very right about the pro power on board. I am still waiting for my lightning, but have hybrid F150 already. I used to have to carry large Camping batteries to charge everything and have to keep those charged using solar or 12 V while I was driving. However, with the 2021 hybrid F150, I just carried one small camping battery this year enough to run the refrigerator overnight if I was at a campground where I could’ve run the gas engine. The rest of the time, I just left the gas engine in generator mode and had no trouble keeping my back up battery fully charged, and my refrigerator and devices charged and running. Ford really knocked that out of the ballpark with their pro power system.

I have the same truck and just wrapped one week of dry camping in a 21’ travel trailer powered by the lightning. I used only about 20% of the battery for the whole week, but my cooking was with gas. I did run the AC for a few hours drawing about 1700 watts from the 20 amp 120 outlet. My only complaint is that the needs to be in the full “on” mode to power the external outlets. There should be an option to do so in accessory mode. This meant that all the interior screens were on 24x7 in the heat and you need to take care to not have climate control on. Also attracts unnecessary attention if at a campground without hookups, but other curious campers.

Really nice to have an idea what kind of power consumption to expect. It wouldn’t be much, but I’d bet you could also add 2 to 4% battery with a portable solar panel or 2. Wouldn’t be much, but could offset a bit of the cooking power draw

Great video, Question: when you slept inside the cab on the second night, did you sleep in the front or back ? And if in the front, how far back did the seat recline? Was it comfortable? Thanks again!
@EHermes
2 жыл бұрын
I do not have the lay flat front seats (I think that is only available on the Platinum), but I sleep in the back seek. The width of the truck is slightly less than my length but it isn't bad. The floor is completely flat but that center console really makes it difficult to lay down there. If someone made an air mattress system that filled the floor to the top of the console and then provided a cushioned sleeping surface from the back of the back seats to the back of the front seats, I think two people could sleep fairly comfortably. I tried a generic setup but it did not get you above the console.

When I sleep in the truck I use the back seat. I'm a little too tall, but it is fine for a few nights. Only the Platinum trim features the fold flat seats, but I still think the steering wheel would bother me.

@@EHermes That is a MAJOR plus with the Ford. One of my favorite things about my Tesla Model S is the ability to use all accessories, power outlets and A/C while the car is DC/AC charging. You can not do that with the Toyota Prius Prime. After 10 minutes, the Toyota shuts off all things while plugged in to charge. The F-150 Lightning is the best all around EV for the price. It's the only vehicle you could literally live in daily.

We are just wrapping up a 3.5 day camping trip. While we weren’t on pro power in the lightning the whole time, we did have the climate running almost all three days due to an overheating dog. We used about 9kW per day, so all in all we lost about 54 miles of range. We have an EcoFlow delta pro that we powered our USB devices and our ecoflow glacier with. Combined, I’m fairly certain we could boondock for 5 days without worrying about range.

the only trouble with using the front trunk to hold a refrigerator is that while under way, power to the outlets in the front is limited to 175 watts of output. i think draw is also limited to the rear outlets as well, but i am not certain on that, don't have my truck yet.

@@EHermes this is correct. there is over 2000 watts of power available in the front trunk, when stationary. that was my point. when in motion, power is de-rated to the outlets there. look in your owners manual. i am not sure if the rear outlets are also de-rated, but i makes sense that they would be.

I'm actually a little surprised you used as much battery camping as you did. Just seems like compared to moving a 6000 lb vehicle around, making coffee wouldn't amount to much of anything... that said, I'm sure that electric griddle is a power hog (although the induction burners should be quite efficient...) And of course AC is intensive, too.... Did you ever figure out how to turn off the external lights? Be super annoying to have them on any time you want power. Having the truck itself (and the display, I assume?) is plenty annoying enough. That's a software update that needs to happen sooner than later. Great videos, thanks!!!

The AC was the big user, but that does not seem unusual. The exterior lights go off; it is just the interior displays that do not go off completely.

Induction is very efficient. But making heat is very expensive no matter how you do it. Each of those Induction cookers draws 1.5-3.0 kw. That's a lot. Two of those running for an hour could be 6.5% of the battery right there.
