Not to often do you find a pilot at an airshow that push's himself and his plane like this. I mean, air vapor every where, and using flaps for low-speed stabilization. Great Pilot

I don't think I fully appreciated what an awesome display of flying this was until I'd experienced 12 years of airshows and this made my top 5 moments! The other 4 in no particular order are; Avro Vulcan at Farnborough 2014 (saw her 15-20 times elsewhere) Spanish Harrier at Yeovilton 2019 (4 minute hover!) Airbus A380 at Farnborough 2006 or 2008 FA/18 Superhornet and Belgian F-16 at Yeovilton 2017 What are your most memorable moments?

I saw a demo by an Su-35 Super Flanker during a Dubai airshow and I gotta admit it looked pretty badass. However, after watching what this Super Hornet did (or can do) without thrust vectoring turbofans it is pretty impressive too. During a BVR missile fight I think the Super Flanker would be hurting against the Super Hornet. During a WVR dogfight with heat-seekers or guns the Hornet could still more than hold its own against the Super Flanker. There is a lot of hype around Sukhoi thrust vectoring (Saturn turbofans) and it does make their modern fighters formidable opponents. However, planes like the F-22 Raptor and/or the Super Hornet are more than a match.

Probably the most maneuverable 4 gen airplane. The F18E/F would eat an SU35 for lunch in both BVR and WVR modes due to it's advanced radar and avionics and the aim9x block 2 missile along with the HMDS will make it an absolute close in killer.

This was the most aggressive Super Hornet demo I've ever seen. This pilot was really testing the aircraft and himself. Very impressive. That said, still give me a F-14D all day. There's a reason why in a branch wide survey, the majority of naval aviators preferred the F-14B/D over both the Legacy and Super Hornet... Mach 2.5 Speed and the Phoenix missile 35,000 lbs of thrust x 2= GROUND SHAKINGRAW POWER.

I saw the Thunderbirds perform at RIAT Fairford, England in 2008 or 2009. I was by a burger van muching on a burger and the guy in the van behind me said "They're a bit boring aren't they?". I agreed and shortly after, the Swiss display team followed by the Red Arrows did their display and the guy said "Now that's display flying".

It's a really nice show there your close to the runway you get to see aerobatic stunts and more but the Super Hornet demo is nice but they don't get to do the maneuvers like in this video but there are "Navy Pilots" that actually fly it. But would be awesome if they actually have this demo in the U.S.

Cool ur a real pilot.I got a few questions to ask. First one is about Su35. If we slit u up into 2 ppl then put one in the Su35 and the other in F18, who will win? I think I think the Su35 will. 2nd question. What is the most effective maneuver to do if an enemy jet gets on your 6. Rolling Scissors? What about when flying into the enemy? 3rd question is, at what turn speed is the F18 the most maneuverable. 330 knots? 4th, what is the F18's lockon Range? Appreciate if u answer them thank you. :)

hell 0 And the MIG-25 is a copy of the A-5 Vigilante with a second vertical stabilizer added. In Fact, North American considered using two vertical stabilizers to meet height restrictions 12 years before the MIG-25 flew, nice try though. As for the F-35, you are dead on. Lockheed paid Yakovlev in the order of 400 million for the tech.

hell 0 I think it is to early to judge the F-35. I spoke to an F-16 pilot a few weeks ago and asked him about the reports of the F-16s embarrassing the F-35 and he said something interesting. "In a visual dogfight, the F-16 will win every time, the F-35 bleeds to much energy but if the F-35 works as expected, I will never see it coming". The reality is that an East vs West dogfight hasn't happened since 1999 in Kosovo (F-16 v Mig 29) and we may not see it again in our lifetime if we can fight from beyond visual range. Dogfights make great theater but if I were fighting a war, I would rather sneak up behind someone and shoot them in the back of the head rather then get into a boxing match. As for the MIG-25 - A-5, its comparing apples to oranges, different generations and missions but the design cues are there.

Incredible demo - I can almost not believe that a pilot was able to squeeze that out of an F-18E. I’m sure the fuel load was low, but it even carried some missiles through the demo. This makes me wonder why planes like the Rafael are considered so superior in air-to-air over the Super Hornet...
@Steven340able
11 жыл бұрын
1. It depends. The Super Hornet has better situational awareness because of the WSO and the pilot who's flying it. It's the back pilot who's job is to do the ground and the pilot in the air (which is the main operation) If it's just the air than he has to give the pilot orders on where to turn and where he's going. The Super Bug has better Nose Point ability than the Flanker. 2. the most effective maneuver is the Cobra. You never know when the other guy is going to do it.

No problem, I understand what you were trying to tell me. Although I am a bit biased towards the Eurofighter ;) (due to my native air force using them), I recognize and respect the capabilities of other products as well and I have read a lot about the Hornet/Super Hornet. It may have something to do with the fact that Farnborough is very much a commcercial airshow as apposed to just one for the avergae spectator. This means that companies are there to purchase aircraft and often means that the intensity of the solo displays may be increased in order to maximise the shock and awe of the aircraft being displayed to sway the customer more.

I always wanted to go to NAS Oceana until 2006 when the tomcats appeared in their final airshow appearance. Now it's just a hornets nest. The only thing I would like to see at an airshow now is the EA-18G Growler however I don't think they can perform in an airshow unless all the ECM pods are removed. If I want to see a Growler, I would have to make the trip up to Whidbey Island, WA or go to Nellis for Red Flag.

the problem with the sukhois is that they bleed off too much energy and yes they can turn tight but only for a short time and at a slow speed. most american aircraft like the superhornet. f 15 f22 etc are able to keep alot of their energy in high g turns and will be able to out turn the sukhois at higher speeds. most dogfights occur at speeds around 500 mph which is where the u.s planes accel. very few dogfights get lower than 300 mph where the sukhoi is best at turning.

Sequestration hits hard! That means you should travel to Austria and come to the "Airpower 2013" - but guess what? This year they are shortening the Programme to decrease costs. Absolutely, never saw a display like the one in that film and I have watched dozens of them on KZitem! Have you seen the Thunderbirds and/or Blue Angels? They very rarely come to Europe and I read that they will not perform this year at all - again budget cuts.

I meant what the most effectiv manuver is other than the Cobra.Thought onlyRUS jets and the F22/Typhoon can do the cobra so F18 can't? And a question that u didn't answer is what manuver do u do when flying into and past enemy jet head on? And I alsoREALLY want to know what the typical cruise altitude and cruise speed a fighter jet can fly at. And dam, the turn speed is classified just as I thought. Should be around 300 knots :D Must be sick to be a pilot. I always Wanted to be a pilot myself :)

And I always wonder how much fighter pilots get paid. :)

Fact of the matter is equipment can help a pilot but it's the pilot's skill that does make a difference as well as tactics. I can have 1 F-15 against 6 MIG-21's and the Eagle would most likely lose unless it's BVR and the 15 can launch it's AMRAAM to take out at least 2 before closing to AIM-9X range the pilot could probably take another 2 with those before getting into the 20MM Cannon range. So arguing about what plane can shoot down another there are a ton of factors in play.

F/A-18E/F can go up to 8G's when you maneuver it in High AOA. 8G's is what it can take. You can pull it's limits and it cannot get overstressed because it has care free handling. Becoming a fighter pilot is hard. You have to do alot of paperwork and training to fly. I'm not planning to retire. If i did i'd be a NASWC teacher. Pilots don't get paid. 300 knots and 7,000ft-20,00ft is where we usually fly at. I messed up my math. Well aircraft can go slower because there's no passengers and not much weight. Yes it takes time to catch the passenger jet because it's far. Yea possibly yo-yos and switches. I can't really tell alot of info because it gives away aircraft performance. But your questions are simple to answer.
@Antifaith29

Anyway, it's nothing personal with either of you. I'll give the Russian fighters one thing. If air combat occurred in a Vacuum then yeah , provided driver skill was on the level they'd have a good shot at it. Anyone that's spent some time in ANY kind of combat, air or ground or whatever, knows it simply doesnt work that way. It's about the entire system and THAT is why the Rhino, the F-35 and the F-22 excel. Anyway, I have to go to work in 4 hours. Gnight, Lads. Have a good one.
