«Føkk Fossils II - tipping point» is a short film about two young volunteers out on a rescue mission in the North Sea, working for the organization «Føkk Fossils». It is September 12, 2050 and the world has passed 2,5 degrees global warming. The Coast Guard sends out a warning - a drone has spotted shipwrecked refugees in distress - all boats search for survivors!
What happens on board the humanitarian boat when they pick up Spanish refugees, the same day as the UN Crisis Council confirms that the world has passed the tipping point and that the feedback mechanisms only will continue to heat the earth? The temperature rises onboard as the Coast Guard wants to know if they have picked up any survivors.
The film portrays a future scenario where the methane levels are rocketing, Europeans have become internally displaced refugees because of heat and drought in the south and Russia is a central agricultural power where people hope to work.
The film is based on climate science facts and made for educational purposes to engage youth and create knowledge about the dangerous feedback mechanisms, which will be set in motion when the world passes two degrees global warming. The film is a sequel to the film “Fuck Fossils - a future you don’t want” released in 2017. Both films are based on the climate science report “En fremtid du ikke vil ha” by Thomas Cottis, is funded by the Research Council of Norway and is produced by Snöball Film.
Leading roles are played by Fabian Svegaard Tapia, Kristina Ødegaard, Jonas Oftebro og Aase-Marie S. El-Sayed. Written and directed by Marianne Kleven.
