We stopped at a road junction were there were a few shops so we could stretch our legs. The toilets were on the other side of the road where there was a small stream. A rickety wooden construction had been erected over the stream. There were cubicles and inside them was just a hole that just went straight into the stream. I still wonder why they bothered building it at all, why not just go directly into the stream.

Yes of course in rural locations , small towns or lower tier cities the cleanliness could be very different , from my experience most tier 2 cities and above are very clean. To gain a higher tier the city must tick certain boxes ( higher tier means more money from central Government to further development) In regards to filming , it is very common here , ie if any delivery is made to a home, business ect and it will be photographed / filmed as proof of delivery if not taken in person. Also many outdoor companies ask there workers to film their work , ie gardener would photo / film after they planted some new flowers, to show it has been done.(maybe save time and money not requiring a supervisor to later inspect the work ) Even where I live yesterday the ground staff were cleaning in preparation for New years and the community management were filming the finished product. Not sure it could be classed as a human rights issue, regardless the employer has the right to know the job is being done, workers already know if this is required before taking the job. P.S I doubt they film undercover , it is more open than that here.😉

I was in China in 2019 and found the toilets in various cities extremely clean. The airport public toilets are extremely clean as a single toilet cleaner is assigned to each toilet. No comparison with the public toilet United States which tend to be filthy. The streets in large cities in China are extremely clean compared to the cities in the United States.

I live in Fujian China. Nowadays, public toilets throughout Fujian province look uniformly like this. Even the larger public toilets have special cleaning staff living in them. But one thing has to note is that Chinese public toilets generally do not provide toilet paper. Chinese Kleenex has a different standard of toughness than toilet paper, which can be flushed directly by water, but Kleenex cannot be thrown down the toilet to prevent clogging. This has confused many foreigners, including the Chinese.
In North America, there isn't any public toilet. There are full of homeless and everyone goes to Mcdonald's or any fast food to use the toilets. For example, I have seen in several McDonald's, seats surrounding the toilets are occupied by several homeless for the whole day, especially during winter, and without ordering anything. They use the toilet every time. So, it's so stinky even after cleaning by the staff. It was awful.

As a Chinese myself, I am also baffled why the used toilet paper needed to be thrown into the bin. We certainly don;t do that at home. Something to do with the toilet cleaners want to save the trouble of getting clogged toilets … those would be very nasty jobs for them

One thing to consider is a squat toilet would have less poo on the bum cheeks to wipe as they are more spread apart and Chinese people in general have less body hair where to poo can get stuck requiring more poo on the paper. I am no toilet detective , but I would think any very pooy paper would be flushed , I say this because the toilets don't have any bad poo odor !

Check out toilets in malls. They are really fancy.
@chinathesideyoudontsee8157
Жыл бұрын
Yes that is true for the newer malls , but a lot is left up to the management to decide how fancy or clean they are. For instance I made some mall videos , part one I went to an old mall and and in comparison the public toilets are probably better, part two I went to a new mall and the toilets there are quite nice . The public toilets here are consistent as the cleaners are always on duty on must comply to local GOV standards.

Hello and thanks for watching. Not sure what space has to do with hygiene, but since you brought it up , China has a Space station, 11 manned flights into space and planning on sending astronauts to the moon in 2026 so I guess supplying a clean and hygienic environment to its citizens isn’t a sacrifice it needs to make ! If you think India putting a rover on the moon is more important to yourself than sanitary living conditions , that is your choice .

@@chinathesideyoudontsee8157 India has to solve hygiene & sanitation for it lacked public toilets since many among them are poor citizens who couldn't afford their private toilets since only the rich or elite Indians could afford them. Those who lack toilets pooped in the streets.

Lol, I see some old toilet that had no door with just a long straight line in 94, then old nasty dirty squat toilet in rest area on some freeway in 01, to clean toilet with heated seat and bidet in 22 so yeah. You can see how the country improved just by seeing how clean their toilet is,I suppose 😂. China really improved so much in those 30 years. In regards to cleanliness / environment ect this city is better than Beijing ! probably the fact that it is smaller helps it to be more manageable , I have yet to come across any public toilet that doesn't have staff on duty keeping it clean. The worst are probably some Department stores as they dont fall under Government jurisdiction , but they are still quite clean. Smell I would think would depend on traffic going through it and plumbing , older the smellier I guess.

When I was last in China they had a star rating system that on the entrance to the toilet there were 1 - 5 stars at the entrance. Apparently a one star is pretty much a squat toilet but no toilet paper up to a 5 star which is a combination of european and squat toilet with toilet paper etc.

I have never come across that on my travels , but each city does things slightly different .Many years ago in this city the toilets weren't the same as they are now , it is all about the tier system ( city rating )

As we both know train stations in China are generally massive = a lot of use, so even if the staff cleaned every 15 minutes they could get messy. Again it comes down to the city and tier level of that city, last time a caught a train here they were fine , but we are a small city , 8 000 000+ 😂

We have a wide spread urban legend in the 1980s ( when China was way behind) saying that in Japan, they clean the toilet at least 7 times after each use, the person responsible for cleaning the toilet must drink a cup of water out of that toilet he/she just cleaned, to guarantee the absolute cleanliness.
