Alonso’s higher rating with the team bosses may also have been partially due to how he helped elevate Lance Stroll’s stock over the season. Those two made a greater team, and what more could a boss ask for in a senior driver than to help elevate younger drivers while also performing well themselves?
@LawVS

Fernando hurt Lance's stock more than any other driver on the grid. He showed that Lance is too far away from championship level to warrant a seat based on merit. "Tell Lance i will not attack" is a giant middle finger to nepotism. If you had billions to spend to build a F1 team, you would not spend a dollar of on Lance. ridiculous to claim, "those two made a greater team."

Hamilton and Alonso, the two oldest drivers on the grid whom many consider to be well past their prime age, and yet the drivers themselves rate them as the best of the best behind the young star in his prime that is Verstappen. Hamilton had such an unbelieveable talent to carry that car, which oftentimes are 3rd or 4th best car in most weekends as others have analyzed, into P3 in the drivers standing when his once-highly-rated teammate is on P8. It's always amazing to see Hamilton's endgame moments as you've said, no other driver can be as rapid as him in the later stage of the race simply because how good he extract performance from his tyres. Alonso is just pure magic to watch. His racecraft is second to none, and it allows him to battle wheel to wheel on track like no other. I was craving so hard for his 33rd win, and it would've come in Monaco if he had slightly better quali or strategy call. I just hope Aston Martin is able to give him competitive cars consistently, it's always such a joy seeing Alonso fight on the sharp end of the grid. We have to appreciate these two legends while they're here. It's one thing to have longevity like many good drivers displayed, it's another to still be the cream of the crop at such a late age in F1.

Only reason that Checo was so low was a combination of comparing to Max and comparing to how he did in the past. At the beginning of the season he was on par in terms of fighting for the championship. but after Monaco, he was inconsistent, faltering in ways that didn't seem right to align with how he was both in 2021 and 2022. Eventually he did gain back the confidence that he showed in the beginning of the season, but because of how far apart he was from Max in terms of points and the expectation that was set up in terms of fighting at the front of the grid, it is unfortunate but make sense why he is that low on the charts.

One thing to note with the drivers' rating is that they don't watch the races, they're inherently lacking a lot of context that we and the bosses have for these races. It's especially apparent when you consider how drivers see on-track incidents before and after seeing replays, such as Hamilton taking himself out in Qatar. Just because they're the drivers doesn't necessarily mean they know what they're talking about

Checo being 10th makes a bit of sense. He had the best car on the grid and didn’t run away with second place in the driver’s championship. It’s probably not fair, because the reason they think that is because of how consistent Max was in his domination. Could another driver in Checo’s car have scored more championship points and podiums? Yeah, maybe. Could another driver have beaten Max? Eh, that I’m not so sure of. That being said, I’m sure every one of them probably thinks they could drive that RB better than Checo, but I wonder how many actually could. It’s interesting to see the Bosses likely recognize how much Leclere gets screwed by bad strategy or bad luck. Sainz is just a little less than Leclere. Less speed, but also less bad luck and less mistakes. lol I feel like Hamilton was different this season than last. Last he struggled coming to terms with how bad the car was compared to Russell who seemingly was trying to get everything out of a bad car. This year though Russell made too many mistakes while Lewis looked like he was maxing out a bad a car.

Checo dropped the ball-I think-by letting the psychological pressure get to him, combined with not pouring himself into the simulator as the car developed under him. No, I dont think Red Bull is giving them different cars, but I do think they’re biasing the development towards maximizing results from Max’s driving style. For Checo (who I don’t think anyone would argue has a different driving style), it makes wringing performance out of the car-especially on a qualifying lap-that much more of a challenge. Once he started pouring himself into the simulator (I believe it was shortly after Suzuka), his performance started coming back. I think I would have probably put Checo at 9th, and Yuki at 8th, and left Gasly out altogether, but I think the rest of the driver’s list is pretty accurate.

McLaren started off HORRIBLY and had only 17 points to their name before the turnaround happened when Merc and Ferrari had way more and far less strife. Lando needs the right package under him to get his mindset in check. My thoughts hinge on McLaren starting off 2024 strong or at least NOT LAST. With that start, Lando can have a career-defining year like he did in 2020.

@@LawVS Lando in a fast car will 100% win a race, 100% agree with that. BUT is Mclaren the team to give him that car? And i agree but it is applicable to any good driver (George, Albon, Sainz, Hulk etc) they all can have great seasons if the car is 2nd or 3rd fastest. Yes Mclaren did start off badly but they had the correct concept in the pipeline... Ferrari didnt and since Mclarens Silverstone Upgrades they JUST and i mean JUST beat Ferrari in points (2 DNS, 1 DSQ,) and Mclaren are wishy washy in performance... look at how bad they wer in LV and Abu. I feel the field should be closer but still think Rb (top), Merc (2nd), Ferrari (3rd- close to merc), Aston and Mclaren fighting fr 4th and 5th but occasionally troubling the top three

@@LawVS he only plays the team game when he is the beneficiary. And if you only play the team game when you’re the one to gain then you’re not really playing the team game are you. All season the narrative with him was he goes hard at Lewis but he’s a great driver that wants to win so it’s expected and fine. Anyway the phase playing the team game typically refers to when someone SACRIFICES their race to help the team get a better result. I have still never seen George do that

Interesting that Hamilton refused to participate in this. My knee jerk reaction was to criticise him for this, as I'm not a fan of his for many reasons I won't go into, but when I thought about it... I thought back to when I was in Grade 11 in high school. The teacher put a list on the chalk board of all the students from best to worst. I was listed as the worst, and it really hurt my feelings to be publicly shamed for not doing well at that time. I don't know why Hamilton didn't participate, but it is a bit hard on the bottom 10 to know (vaguely, since there was no specific bottom 10) how little your peers think of you. I think the points speak for themselves.

Drivers rating lewis as the second best driver is correct. Alonso had a good season however i feel him, max, albon perfomances are lauded more as they have very poor team mates. However in the case of ferrari, mercedes, mclaren next year and alpine drivers, the no.1 drivers in those teams are challenged properly as they have very good team mates. So leclerec,hamilton etc wont be able to shine as they wont be able to dominate their team mates like how alonso, max and albon has.Hence alonso, max,albon peformances look elevated than usual as their teammates are operating below the capabilities of the car. Albon is getting a lot of praise this year.However this year and last he is have worst drivers in the grid as team mates.If he is going to be in a redbull he will still show the same perfomance as what he showed in 2020. Alonso has stroll who shouldnt be in F1 by now if it wasnt for his dad. Perez shudnt be anywhere near a championship winning car considering his perfomanaces in the last 3 years in a dominant redbull.

What i said is proper facts. There is general consensus among F1 fans in praising one driver who always outperforms his lowly rated teammates without realising that this looks great only beause the second driver is not performing any where close to the capabilites of the car.I am pretty sure in the current grid albon is probably last 13-16 in the rankings .However his ranking looks very high as rookie sargent is his team mate. If in williams if his team mate was bottas, gasly or ocon he wouldnt be in the top 10 as there is a good chance these drivers would be close and most probably beat him if they were driving williams. @@pantrofl

@@praveenkuncheria5492 you're basically saying Verstappen has been made to look good because Perez is underperforming. Yet Verstappen has set records this year which have a good chance of never being broken. Verstappen made himself look good, Perez's lack of performance is no contributing factor to that.

Verstappen was the best driver this year. However with useless perez as his team amte there is no challenge to him at all. Verstappen hasnt fighted with Hamilton/leclerc/alonso as they all have cars .5-1 sec slower in race pace than redbull. So for verstappen to win his only challenge over last 1.5 years is useless perez. This year redbull was the fastest car in all races except for singapore. redull is the best team in f1 in terms of pitstop, strategy and engineering crew with the great adrian newey. So i think all top drivers wouls win same as verstappen this year in redbull with perez as their team mate.@@pantrofl
