Scuderia Ferrari is advancing in Formula 1 under the attentive leadership of team principal Frederic Vasseur. This progression reflects a learning curve that is moving forward with a certain understanding, finally yielding promising results in the 2024 Formula 1 championship. However, there's still something lacking, and it's expected to arrive at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola in less than two weeks: an important aerodynamic package we've long anticipated, which, in theory, should give a significant advantage to the red car. Defining its impact before seeing it on track wouldn't be prudent, as we always emphasize. But in the meantime, let's review what transpired in Miami.
Returning to the ever-cheerful Fred Vasseur, who, at the Miami International Autodrome in Florida, showcased his passion for camaraderie, laughter, and joy by celebrating with McLaren. And so what? Some Ferrari fans criticized the Frenchman for this, deeming it disrespectful. However, such criticisms seem a bit exaggerated, to be honest. Moving on, Vasseur made some interesting observations at the conclusion of the Miami Grand Prix. One standout comment: "Red Bull's comfort zone is no longer there." Indeed, it's hard to disagree. The Milton Keynes team has lost two out of six races in this early part of the 2024 Formula 1 championship, which is twice as many as last year.
Furthermore, the gap between them and the competition has significantly narrowed. Scuderia Ferrari and McLaren are hot on the heels of the Red Bull RB20. McLaren has already introduced an evolutionary package, which seems to have had a positive impact. We've thoroughly analyzed and explained these key changes in previous articles dedicated to the new modifications on the MCL38's sidepods. Meanwhile, Ferrari has opted to unveil the new design of the SF-24 car in Italy. If these innovations prove effective, as Vasseur suggests, they could close the performance gap and enable the red car to contend with Red Bull every race weekend, applying pressure and competing on equal terms with the reigning champions.
The differences between the teams are currently very marginal, a fact that Vasseur acknowledges. Hence, he emphasizes the importance of car tuning, the comprehensive approach to race weekends, and the quality of on-track work by technicians, engineers, and drivers in optimizing results. Maximum concentration is required, even more so than what we've seen thus far. Although Ferrari may never openly admit it, there's a small glimmer of hope to vie for the championship. After all, why not embrace it? It's a positive motivation that can only bolster the team's determination.
