In one of the Free Practice session of this GP, this very car's fuel lid was still open when De La Rosa exited the pit. It stayed open during the lap and eventually broke off the car on the straight because of the pressure. It flew over the fence onto the grandstand I was sitting on. Because it was a FP there weren't that many people on the grandstand. When the fuel lid fell we heard the noise and looked. I said: "what the hell was that?!". And my mate replied: "that's a piece from that McLaren!! Go get it!!". I rushed to get it and didn't instantly recognize what part of the car it was so we stared at De La Rosa's car with binoculars and at the screens to figure out what it was. A few laps later we figured it out. A few years later we went to the Nurburgring. During another FP we walked by some random exit on the circuit. Suddenly we spotted Paul Stoddart walking out of that exit so we decided to hang around to see who else would come through. The next F1 figure we saw was, Pedro De La Rosa. My father (who was also with me in 2005 when I got the fuel-lid) didn't hesitate and stepped up to Pedro and started talking to him. He asked him if he could remember losing that fuel-lid in 2005 and he actually did remember. My dad pointed to me and said: "well he's the owner of it now!". De La Rosa started laughing and said: "That's great! How's the fuel-lid doing?". Those two moments are still a few my coolest moments ever while visiting a live GP. Just thought I'd share this story because I truly miss this era so much!

What a car that was

Maybe a bit late but it was a 1:19:8xx if i remember correct. The cars have also been trimmed this season. Even if they weren't, it wouldn't have been possible to drive a 1:17:8xx with the 2004 cars one year later.

@@alejandrogil2208 No he wasn't. Kimi did his lap with a full tank of fuel in Monza and fuel adjusted was leagues quicker. Monza 2005 is one of the best qualifying laps I have ever seen. 10x better than his 2018 pole. Pedro was leagues slower. In Bahrain Kimi made a huge mistake on his quali lap like in Canada and Brazil. In the race he destroyed Pedro. Pedro's quali position wasn't even that high to begin with. In 2006 Kimi outqualified Pedro every single race too. Trulli was much faster than Alonso though. That's for sure. Kimi was the reason this car was as fast as it was. Montoya, Pedro and Wurz looked average.
