A short clip showing a flight of two VF-211 F-14As flying from NAS Key West, Florida, to NAS Oceana, Virginia, in April 2001. Later that year, this squadron would be among the first to participate in Operation Enduring Freedom following the September 11th attacks. In the beginning of the video, the jets perform a "clean and dry" maneuver, where each closely above and below the other, inspecting the aircraft immediately after takeoff. They then transit enroute, descend through clouds, and perform the high-G "break" maneuver over the runway at NAS Oceana. Note how close the jets fly to one another while approaching for the break, each with its wings manually swept fully aft.
Of note, the jet pictured in this video (aircraft 104) was lost at sea on March 8, 2002, when its tailhook broke on touchdown. You can see video of the incident here: • F-14 Tailhook break and here: • F-14 tailhook break ej... . The pilot and RIO safely ejected and were picked up.
