My 2013 F150 fan would kick on high after 10 minutes of driving after the Ford Dealership replaced the thermostat with an aftermarket part. They insisted they had replaced it with an OEM. They hadn’t. Once an OEM thermostat was reinstalled the problem immediately resolved. If someone else is dealing with this issue an aftermarket thermostat MIGHT be the issue. Thanks for sharing.

I have had this happen twice on my 2011 ford. First time my high side pressure on my ac was high. I replaced the expansion valve and pressures went to normal and the fans started working normally. The second time after doing some repairs I didn't notice that the coolant level was low. topped it off and the fans started working normally. On this second occasion the truck's temperature was normal but adding the coolant fixed it.

My 2016 F150 V8 had a very loud fan and I changed the pressure switch and thermostat. Neither helped. I took it to the shop and my high pressure freon read 300psi when the truck was off. I had too much air in there and no idea how that happened. They took the air out and added freon and now it sounds very pleasant and easy on the ears lol.

....... if you are working the cooling system on a F-150 with the V8 from about 2011 to 2017 or so and you install a new THERMOSTAT be sure to install a new 180 degree F or 187 degree F THERMOSTAT ..... the original Ford factory THERMOSTAT is a 190 degree F THERMOSTAT but if you re-install a new 190 degree F THERMOSTAT in your 2012 or 2013 F-150 with the V8 then the 2 electric radiator fans will run continuously after the engine warms up ...... the electric radiator fans will never cycle off ..... over 200 youtube contributors have observed this now ....... I learned the hard way myself but by watching youtuber's comments I learned how to fix the problem ...... I had installed a brand new 190 degree F THERMOSTAT and sure enough my fans ran all the time ...... I searched youtube and found the answer ..... I hope this makes things easier for my fellow do it yourself guys ..... posted by Jent.

Mine was simple, my AC was overcharged but didn't become an issue until higher outside temps. Had my AC checked by my friend that owns a garage and they removed some freon and my fan went off and is acting normal again. Probably my fault because I may have added to much late last summer. Wasn't the pressure sensor, wasn't the thermostat, it was to much freon which would behave the same as the pressure sensor.

I'm told it could be the expansion valve which is stuck in a position where pressure builds up and turning the switch on high. Put a set of gauges on AC unit and needle pegged which means pressure too high due to something. Will replace expansion valve and switch and see if that fixes the problem. Did you have any luck replacing your switch

Plug switch back in, fans start right back up. Left switch unplugged. No fans running on high. Drive truck, and no detectable overheating. Is there a downside to simply leaving this switch unplugged until i can do the repair? Will it affect anything besides my ac which im not using anyway because its December?
@jt2112able

Have a 2012 with the 5.0 high electric fans just started happening - in colder weather. Engine temp gauge always appears normal (just below 1/2 way on gauge). Only happens if HVAC power switch is turned on and defrost setting is selected (AC compressor runs when defrost is selected). Does not happen if I switch to heat only (dash vents/floor vents). I have read multiple forums/posts and most of it points to high AC system pressure or possibly low coolant/wrong thermostat. I don't think it's the latter in my case because my coolant/system has been normal/untouched. I have had to top off coolant from time to time because the shitty plastic 'Y' pipe they use near top front of engine/above water pump I think weeps coolant gradually. My water pump was replaced 6 years ago and does not have coolant coming from shaft area/weep hole found on most water pump castings. A perplexing problem for sure so I do suspect something with the AC system.
