The service manual says to remove the forks and compress them. Anyone know if this is required to do this job? If not done, will some dirty oil remain in the valve? Will there be air trapped?

@danawhite384 Most likely is to remove maximum oil out.of the tubes without dismantling them. in my case , I did that and let them drain for 30 min (not filmed).

Thank you Motorcycle Touring for this video. What is the torque on the drain plug?

Hi Steve, believe it or not, the BMW dvd does not have any references to the torque value, I tightened with gut feel. Not too much any way … for info, the F650GS requires 6Nm for the fork oil drain plug (but smaller bolt than the F700)

The original recommendations is puzzling... F650GS(K72,Twin Cylinder) requires 50Nm F700FS requires 38Nm G650GS requires 50Nm

At what point is it necessary to do this? I don't see anything in the recommended maintenance about periodic change of the fork oil.

It should be done every two years as per BMW.

Hello, I have as well an F700 gs and want to change the oil. Does the oil fully drain out at the button? Is it recommended to let it drain over night, or is it necessary to pump some left oil out from the top of the fork? Nice F700 Playlist by the way. Thank you and regards from Germany, Richard 🙏

Yes it will drain from the bottom, I will not leave it overnight, but maybe 20-30 min …
