Many thanks for the excellent info. My flexicom had the F9 and the startup did the four noises but no pump. Apparently it always runs the pump on startup just to make sure it is working. Took the pump motor from another flexicom and plugged it into the circuit board. This one did whirr on startup so it was the pump. Changing the pump was not too difficult. You have to drop the accessory housing out of the bottom of the boiler housing then you remove the four allen key bolts. You need to drain the boiler as much as possible as water spurts out when you loosen these bolts so a bucket will have to be put under the boiler to collect this. The replacement pump motor with its impeller (these seem to be available new on ebay) is then bolted back onto the pump and the cable plugged into the PCB. A bit of a thorough dry all round and a refilling then the boiler worked perfectly. Without Dave I wouldn't have had the clue that it was the pump. A really helpful video. Thanks.

Thanks Dave. Had continual F9 faults in the morning with my Ultracom 30 Xsi and getting more regular. Could start using your fix by adding some water. Got the BG boiler engineer who said the expansion vessel was the issue which he recharged. He also did the annual service which was long overdue to Covid. Next morning F9 again. Was reluctant to start messing about with the boiler even though I am an engineer but decided to pull the pressure sensor. As you suggested it was clogged solid with gunk. Cleaned it out, reinstalled and F9 faults no more. Thanks. If clogged pressure sensors on these boilers are such an issue why don't they inspect them as part of the annual inspections as you do?

I used to have loads of problems with F9 sensors on a Flexicom SX30. Many pressure sensors replaced but eventually found that from the first installation - the boiler internal expansion vessel had been over-pressurised. With the boiler main system depressurised, the expansion was at 1.8 Bar. The manual says it should be 0.5 Bar. Once reset to 0.5 Bar, I have never had another F9 fault. This was not a combi boiler, just a system boiler.

Great video, the re-pressurising has worked on my boiler sx18 a few times in the last 5 years. When that failed I find just wiggling the flow sensor connector has helped. Today I found that wasn't enough and had to fix the connector by squeezing the pins together. As an electrician I have often found simple problems are due to poor connections, the connector on the flow switch is a cheap edge connector onto the circuit board edge of the flow switch. Any work to remove and clean or replace the switch may mask a simple issue with this connector that could present as an intermittent fault.

Hi Dave, I have a similar fault with F9 showing on my ultracom cxi. The pipe to the left of the boiler with a rubber hose attached developed a small leak, I removed this and found the pipe had a blockage, full of large rusty particles, I cleaned the pipe out, removed the pressure sensor and cleaned it took the pump head off for a check and was clean inside and pump vanes manually free to rotate by hand. On startup, I can hear the diverter valve working, but the pump doesn't startup or make any kind of start-up noise. Pressure reading 1.5 bar. Is the pressure displayed a reading from the pressure sensor that is causing the F9 fault or is read from another sensor? What are your thoughts on this? is it a faulty pressure valve or pump? I tested the pump head with it dismantled from the pump housing and hit the reset to see it would startup, nothing happened! Hoping you can point me in the right direction.
@g20gasservices
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob if the boiler was drained down then the display should have said 0.0 bar or close to it. If the pressure is under 0.5bar then the boiler or the pump won’t work!. Once the pressure is above 0.5 bar then the pump should spin. It’s tricky to test the pump but if you’re comfortable with electrics you could push a live and neutral in the pump plug! Is the pump a Wilo pump? If so they are a bit dodgy! Dave
@robhills2398
4 жыл бұрын
@@g20gasservices thanks for the reply Dave, when you say push live and neutral in the pump plug what does that mean? I did notice that maybe there was broken connection at the pump as when I moved the wire sometimes the pump would start up, but then slowly cut out again, I thought this was a coincidence? It is a silo pump. Could there be a fault with the pump wiring?
@g20gasservices
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob it’s usually the red switch on the boiler that goes faulty. If you mess with it the pump might start but it won’t last! You’ll need a new pump. Unfortunately they don’t supply Wilo pumps anymore so you’ll have to fit a Grundfoss but it comes with the housing as well so it’s a bigger job than just changing the pump head!

I have a Glow worm flexicon 24CX, the display is the same as the one in your video, and when we use the heating, for some reason the pressure showing in the display keeps going up and up slowly and never decreases. within a week, as we use the heating, the pressure showing in the display goes up to 2.7 bars. I then need to use one of the drain off valves in one of the radiators and drain some water in order to bring the pressure down to 1.0-1.2 bars. What is causing this? I'm monitoring this situation and when using just hot water in any of the taps, it doesn't make the pressure to go up and up like when using the heating.
@g20gasservices

Rui Nunes hi inside the boiler is an expansion tank which takes up the expansion of the central heating water when it gets hot. This tank should be pressured with air however if the air leaks out or if the tank is punctured then the pressure will increase when the heating is on. You need to book an engineer when we’re out of lock down. Regards Dave

Hi Peter yes you can connect a thermostat to your flexicom. You can use either a wired or a wireless. The tricky thing is removing the wiring plug that goes into the boiler! Follow the wire that goes in the boiler on the left hand side and remove the 2 screws that have a torx head on them! This will allow the black plug to be pulled out downwards. Inside the plug are the wiring terminals that you need. Dave

Hi assuming you’re confident to work on your boiler here’s a breakdown. Close the flow and return valves under the boiler using a 4mm Allen key. Open both the drain cocks that are on the flow and return valves and put 2 buckets under them. Take the cover off and remove the condensate trap then remove the clip and the pressure sensor. Quickly push in the new sensor as water will come out. Job done. Good luck

Hi Stephen if you press the reset button and watch the pressure it should increase by at least 0.1 bar after about 6 seconds when the pump kicks in. If it doesn’t ever show a pressure increase then maybe expansion vessel pipe blocked or expansion vessel low in pressure. If it does show an increase then something must be sticking occasionally to cause f9! Could be sensor or pump. Good luck

G20 Gas Services I’ve had a new expansion vessel a few weeks ago and pressure valve this week. The pressure does go up when it is reset. I have noticed that when you reset the boiler for the first two seconds the bar shows 1.0 which is different to the 1.4 bar when the boiler is at rest. Are they two different readings and if so could that be the answer?
@g20gasservices
6 жыл бұрын
If the pressure goes up to 1.4 bar when the pump is running proves that the problem isn’t with the expansion vessel or air in rads! I’d say it’s still pressure sensor problems maybe caused by your system water! A flush and a double dose of inhibitor would be my next move!

phplumbing53 yes on the older cxi boilers F9 is a generic code so it will throw it up if the pcb doesn’t know what the fault is. F5 is the overheat stat. Dave

This is a recurring thing for my boiler, happens 1-2 times a week now, usually after it’s been on a while the day before. Works just fine after I reset it, how do I stop it from happening?

Jack Robbo make sure all your radiators are bled then maybe get a heating engineer to replace the pressure sensor

Hi Dave Good video I've an ultra com 30sxi and keep getting the f9 I've replaced the sensor. Added an expansion vessel. Prv.Changed the pump. Pressure is constant now but still getting f9. . I've two zones.The boiler calls but doesn't fire up always and keeps trying to f9. Sounds like some air but I've bled all the rads. I haven't looked at the filter yet. Any other ideas? Thanks

Hi Dave, I have a glow worm flexicom 18sx and I have an intermittent problem. It comes up with fault code F9 and after I reset it sometimes it works fine straight away but sometimes it will continue to say F9 but a couple of days later it will work again for about two days then the fault code comes up again! I’ve had an engineer come and take a look but it worked fine while they were there! Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi Trev it will be the pressure sensor that needs replacing! They get blocked up but as they’re only about £30 it’s not worth cleaning it. Dave

Hi my gloworm 30sx displays f9 after 4efforts to start , is the whirring noise at the start the fan or pump starting ?

Witty Woo the first thing that comes on is the pump. If it’s making a loud noise it possibly needs replacing!

Witty Woo ok have you tried all the things I’ve said in the video? If so then maybe just a new pressure sensor!

G20 Gas Services hey Dave , turnes out it was a pressure problem , the reason i didnt realise this is cause the display was telling me pressure was at 1.3 bar , but when when i pulled the blow off (just to see), noting happened , so i pressurised the system as normal & she fired up , happy days .... why would i get a wrong pressure reading on display ??
