What I always love about the House of Velour's is that it foregrounds and showcases other drag queens with elegance and reverence. Sasha Velour doesn't ever feel obligated to put herself at the centre of the piece, or brand everything. Velour is a style more than a brand, and that style is glorious. In a sea of people shouting, 'look at me, look at me', I really cherish that Sasha is saying, 'look at them, look at this'.

As a young queer person, this is so insightful, every day I find it hard to be queer, but the more I learn the more I realized how beautiful being queer really is.

Here's somethin' to remember. It was written by Jonathan Davis, of Korn. And I guess it wound up in _Joker._ "You laugh at me because I'm different. I laugh at you because you're all the same." A lyric, a line, and a pretty good approach.

OMG, I never thought that Chinese Opera or Xiqi would be mentioned. A famous movie 'Farewell my Concubine' about the art form is made in the 90s and I think it is still one of my favotite movies, partly because my father also a performer in Xiqi so I think of him whenever I watch it. Thank you for such beautiful and informative doc.

This is an incredible storytelling of queer culture manifestations throughout history and many cultures. For those who are still uncomfortable or estranged by queer nature, this is an artistic snapshot of some of the most iconic artists, actors, activists and social revolutionaries who dared to challenge the gender status quo of humanity. This is a superb work of research and historical reckoning. These artists and activists faced fears, prejudices and danger to show that our binary, heterosexual, cisgender nature isn't the only human nature as it has been proved in many different cultures across the world. For those who ignore the queer movement, for those who undermine it, for those who don't care about drag: queer culture is culture and we all live on it. Thank you Sasha Velour. This research and artistic work (the masks are incredible!) is fundamental and educational.

I see why Vander Von Odd was inspired enough by Barbette to name herself after them. This video is very insightful, thank you for making it. As a drag king and circus artist living with parents of a totally opposite mindset, I've been feeling very discouraged about pursuing most of my interests over the course of this pandemic. Somehow these people made it through despite the overwhelming discouragement they've received in their lives. Very timeless inspirations. I also love this history because it's like finding the missing puzzle pieces to historical phenomenons I was introduced to as a child. Also the masks are beautiful, love the craftsmanship.😊❤️
