@@alexavailable8914 It took some time, but Nefrums' organization made it easy. I didn't have to work to figure out when he'd start a new section, as he would always announce new sections. I just watched the video again, recorded times for announced new sections, building sections I wanted to review, and comments I found particularly helpful. My reason for making an index is that even though the video is very well organized, it's still long. I often wanted to rewatch a section, as I like the speedrunning approach to Factorio and want to get better (even though I am still very slow). So I've spent a lot of time with this video, and it was helpful to me to have an index. It was also helpful in that I often learn a topic better if I take notes. For me, this was taking notes during Nefrums' lecture.

thanks to your guide i was able to get the "there is no spoon achievement". I'm sure some people will not agree with this method but. I did what you did in editor. I created my layout base in a good starter base. when i was satisfied i copied and pasted the blueprint to a new save on the same map string. then i just crafted what i needed to get bots up and running and they built the rest, all i had to do after that was hand feed the rocket silo and use the left over resources from research to speed up the build.

i watched nilaus %100 achievment series and heard him mention you a couple times in relation to the build he was using, i then copied the build and map settings(yeah it took a while), then i played it out layed down the first blueprint to take me lazy bastard to getting on track then me second BP to get to the bots then they finished the build for me. first time getting no spoon and it was achieved in 5h30m. i carried on with they save and got %100 achievments on one run, however i didn`t go big or fast with the green circuits summat like 16 hours in the end but still fun to do. this video definatley helps me understand what a factory needs, so thank you for taking the time to do

Thank you for this video! I did some prep work based on your recommendations and launched a rocket in just over 5.5 hours on my first attempt! My main holdup was the very limited amount of stone on my map. Rails were hard even though I started them extremely early because I was only able to place about 7 miners on stone and had to manually feed the stone ore to the rails. This was a limitation of the map I used but your knowledge and some prep work on my end made it extremely easy!

For anybody planning their Any% speedrun in 2020. The general strategy is similar, but there are few changes. Chemical science pack need to be researched early, so Advanced oil processing can be unlocked, because it is needed to make lubricant, and electric engines, and go into bots, and for making light oil for rocket fuel. Also blue science is now using sulfur, instead of solid fuel. That is not a big change, and in fact should make things a bit easier. But tech tree is a bit more complex. In total you need to research between 50 and 55 techs (depending if you use Lab research speed and Worker robot speed bonus, and other optional like Effect transmission, Circuit networks and Electric energy distribution 2). Also because you probably don't want to produce solid fuel for rocket fuel from petroleum, you need to wait until you unlock advanced oil processing before you start making solid fuel. Which is just after the bots basically. It will probably still result in the same number of assemblers required, but might require some more, because it might be a bit later than was possible before.

what i got from it: - build exactly the right amount of iron/copper furnaces - automate intermediates asap as the start of the game is mainly limited by crafting speed - 24 furnaces in a row will fill a conveyor belt - force yourself to use hotkeys only (for gripper arms, belts usw...) - early main bus consists of iron plates, gears and green circuits - build about same amount of red & green potion machines - max out automation machines by giving them more than one inserter for in and output - automate pipe! until 22:51
@nefrums4510

That is a good summery of the early game! One more thing is to handfeed a few gear/wire assemblers before you automate intermidiates. It speeds doubles handcrafting speed.

I kind of am bad at speed runs, but I just wanted to say thanks for the design it was enough to let me get the no spoon achievement. I pasted down my design which I didn't use the ignore tree or something because I had a place where a tree broke a belt and other places where inserters were missing or others where they were turned the wrong way etc etc etc... I did have three things maybe more I tried for 400 robots but ended up with sub 80, not sure why I never checked your math after the version changes I used like 0.18.4 but OK. The errors in the build where bad some clusters in purple were not working and rocket control usings had even more issues but purple science was a pain. Maybe I missed stuff but I ended up manually fixing and turning off assemblers as we went and yellow science I just added a few extra robot frames because science was taking forever to finish. However much thanks and I did it with about 20 to 25 minutes to spare. Far far from the 4-hour target :) but down to one achievement to go. Thanks.

Yeah man, no kidding. Serious speed running involves a lot of research and planning and then a lot of practice (RTA) or optimization and repetition (TAS). If you don't love this kind of work, speed running may be very difficult to get into.

I've modified the string to enable biters but limit map size, for anyone chasing There Is No Spoon: pastebin.com/zZP4n86z Unfortunately, turning on biters seems to shrink the south oil field, but there is another northeast of the main copper field. Although my latest run looks pretty good. Limiting purple helpful. Moving circuits build early to help stone/ steel/ rails through very helpful. Just having fast bots handy. And limiting production and hand feeding. Thinking adding speed modules to pump jacks might help. Radars helpful so can BP without running around. Thinking of remote pickup for concrete since storage is near rocket. Just delete the provider chest and bots move concrete to storage?
