Hello! Thank You for your informative videos. I hav had ptosis surgery. First on one eye, but then the other struggled to keep open. So I had to do the other eye as well. The results are not “bad”, but I somehow find myself to look almost symmetrical when I wake up, but during the day or when I am tired or slept bad… one of my eyes eyelid droops and I raise the eyebrow a bit to compensate which makes them look more uneven. It’s the same eyelid I had the first surgery on because it drooped. I never had and glasses but after some appointments the doctor and I noticed that I had bad vision in only one eye (the eye that drooped constantly before surgery and tends to droop after surgery.) I have now used glasses to compensate for my bad vision in that eye. Do you think that the droopiness may disappear by itself over time and how long would that take? Months? Years? Or do I need to do some kind of exercises to strengthen that eye? Can it be droopy due to other causes? Is there something that can help? May it, for example, help to stretch the other eye a bit to loosen the tension and make it weaker as well?

Hi Millie Lu, Sorry to hear about your problem. Eyelid ptosis generally does not get better with time as the levator is a very thin, flat muscle that does not strengthen over time, but rather weakens over time in most people. Hi StuIsArt, Sorry to hear about your problem, but I suggest you follow up with your surgeon first as eyelid ptosis correction is a very precise surgery, so further enhancement is sometimes needed, even with the best of surgeons. If your surgeon is truly experienced in eyelid ptosis surgery, they would know that sometimes the procedure needs further correction, and should be prepared to do it for you. I hope this helps you.

Hello! I am 2.5 weeks post internal ptosis repair in my left eye. I have high hopes for the surgery. However, I am not seeing much improvement compared to how my eyes looked before surgery. Should I be worried. Is is likely that I will see improvement? I will be following up with my surgeon at the 6 weeks mark, but I wanted to ask your opinion.

Hi Tinaa, While 2.5 weeks is still very early in your healing process, I hope you understand that a proper second opinion requires a physical examination. With the precise nature of eyelid ptosis surgery, requiring a little more enhancement is sometimes needed, even with the best surgeons, so if your surgeon is experienced with the surgery, they should expect that additional enhancement may be needed. I would like surgery to restore an even look. Is there a good chance that can happen with ptosis repair. I am 9 years post severe bells palsy on right side. I am in Texas but I am willing to come to you. The shown results look impressive and I want a doctor with lots of experience How many visits would I need?
@AmiyaPrasadMD
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Feliz Sozo, Bells palsy is a separate issue from eyelid ptosis, so you can still have ptosis correction surgery. Eyelid ptosis surgery is a highly specialized, very delicate and precise procedure as it's measured in millimeters, so while over 90% of the time I get it right on the initial surgery, on occasion further enhancement may be needed. All doctors who perform eyelid ptosis do perform further enhancements at least on occasion to get it right, and if they say they don't, they don't have much experience with it, or patient satisfaction is not prioritized. If all goes well the first time, as it does most often, it is just the one visit for the surgery, and another visit to remove the sutures about a week later. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hi doctor, I had internal ptosis repair surgery 12 days ago for Horner's Syndrome. All of the bruising was gone within 7 days and now my eyelid looks like there is no swelling at all. Basically, nobody would be able to tell that I've recently had eyelid surgery by looking at me. I know that everyone (including my doctor) says swelling can last for 1-3 months until we see the "final results." However, my eyelid looks almost the same as it did before the surgery. If my eyelid appears to have no bruising or swelling after 12 days, is this as good as it's going to get? Or will the eyelid continue to raise a little more over the next few weeks? (It's possible there's very slight swelling that my untrained eye can't detect - but it looks like all swelling is already gone to me). Any info would help. Thank you!
@AmiyaPrasadMD
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kenneth McClain, It is possible to have fairly fast healing, especially if the surgery was not so intensive. I suggest you follow up with your surgeon if you feel that eyelid should be higher. Any surgeon experienced in ptosis surgery knows that additional enhancement is sometimes needed because it is such a precise surgery. Your surgeon should have a revision policy in place for eyelid ptosis correction as it is the nature of this surgery to sometimes need further work soon after healing. I hope this helps you.

Hi Doctor, I had ptosis correction 2.5 weeks ago. While the left eye is healing very fast and I have liked the result even since day 3 after the surgery, the right one is healing at a much slower pace. It is much more swollen and red than the other side. I know that this may be common. The doctor suggested to continue using a cold compress on the swollen side. Do you think using cold compress even on the second week will help? Anything that I can do to help it heal faster? Thank you in advance.

I plan to have asian double eyelid surgery with ptosis repair (mild drooping of left eye, my family doctor confirmed it’s just age-related) and you seem to produce beautiful results that I’m interested in! But first I want to know will this more likely than not result in my left eye swelling for a longer time than my right, since ptosis surgery is more complicated than a simple bleph? If so, then for how long according to your experience will this asymmetry last? I want to know because I’m not so self conscious about swelling as I am about asymmetrical swelling... and I just need to know what to expect. Thank you 🙏🏼
@AmiyaPrasadMD

Hi hammypie, Temporary swelling causing a high eyelid crease during the recovery period is determined by the individual's own healing process, so I can't say how long it lasts, usually anywhere from 1 week to about 6 months, with full surgical healing taking about a year. What I can say is that with advanced surgery wound healing techniques, as well as following aftercare instructions precisely, my patients for double eyelid surgery have less post-surgical swelling than many other practices. Ptosis correction surgery is done exclusively by oculoplastic/oculofacial surgeons like myself. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hi CherLloyd ByCherLloyd, I don't recommend it as doing both eyelids at the same time maximizes symmetry, and is more cost-effective for you in payment of surgeon's fee, anesthesia, support staff, operating room costs, etc. Also, there will be considerable time between surgeries if you choose to have only one eyelid done if the other also needs to be operated.
