We walk visiting students through the streets and paths of African villages.
We introduce them to local communities. We encourage them to dance, share in their host's meals and hospitality, build bonds that often than not last a life long.
Initially you notice hesitation. The visitors grapple with the apparent, poverty, limited resources and what seems as an intrusion of their host privacy.
Gradually the guest gropes through the culture shock. They begin to draw commonalities and parallels between their own culture and that of their host. They embrace their host simplicity, contentment,. Contagious joy and improvisation.
Eventually they discover, the one thing that is common between them and their host's culture is that man is continuously applying appropriate techniques and technology to access food, shelter, security and attain a sense of belonging.
Mindsets shift and transformations are inevitable. Both the hosts and the students confess that their worldview and attitudes have been transformed for the better. With this, stereotypes and racial intonations are defused.
