If you dremel the stakes off the motor you CAN"T re-stake the end cap back on, it's easy enough to just squeeze the tangs together and pull the end cap. Yes, sometimes they break. JB weld, epoxy, tig weld, sometimes just one tang will do if the others are good. . Brushes hang up on ALL SORTS of motors, it's not a VW/AUDI issue. I've seen these assemblies go 200k or 20k. Environments & Preventative Maintenance play a huge role. These fans/motors are not considered "serviceable components" yet they are. I've rebuilt several dozen at this point! Glad to see your exploring other options other than "remove and replace" or "throw away and buy new". Thanks for the video! Cheers!

I have "repaired" this brush 3 times now on our Golf 5 and I am getting faster. I gave all the clamps some hits with a metallplate, the cover was then lifted smoothly by a screw driver from the bottom and fixed by the clamps again when reassembling, without destroying anything. The motors are Siemens VDO. Stupid fault and costly when repaired by the garage.

Brushes like this could cause the fan to be intermittent. VW changed the part number on replacements fan motors = design fault

Wondering if anyone can help me, i have faulty radiator fans (dont turn on at all) on my 2004 golf mk5 with BAG engine code, would this be the same problem as the video suggests? if so it looks difficult to remove the fans as a lot of things have to come off to access the fans in the first place, any advice would be appreciated!
