I used to work for Prescriptives at a counter in a Bullocks/Macy's. This was in the Los Angeles County area. I loved it, and it was so fun making the custom foundations and powders for people. Whenever I made a powder it was like a show/entertainment for the customer as well as for people walking by. I also used to love using the machine to press it into a compact for people, right there, you would have the compact and loose powder to take home too. We made custom formulas for actors, news anchors, all kinds of folks that were in front of a camera. I can still look at people and tell what undertones they have and what colors would be right for them. That cosmetics line trained my eye to see color in the most amazing way. Their concealer was the very best. I have never found a better one. 💔

I don't really get into the business side of brands as much, so I don't know which brands are owned by which companies... But I still remember the first time I realized that all of these brands aren't actually seperate entities and that a lot of them belong to a few big umbrella companies. I was so shocked. 😅 To me it seems like these big companies don't want to invest in the development side of any given brand, so now they essentially just trade. If they can buy it for a price, sell so much that it pays out and then shut it down, it's a win for them. They don't buy brands to keep evolving them. They buy them to milk the money and then let them die out (in my opinion 🤭). It's actually kind of sad.

Just look what Estee Lauder Companies Inc. has done to Bobbi Brown... their collection of blushes was amazing for range, quality, intensity of the pigments, now they are terrible. Same with the lipgloss, less shades, horrible new formula. Ojon is another victim, it was the best hair product line for dry, curly hair, lasted less than a year with them. And of course the decision to kill Prescriptives was short-sighted and ill-advised, unless they aimed to eliminate a rival to other brands under their umbrella such as Clinque?

Yes! I miss Allders and its beauty hall so much. Prescriptives' adverts had models who looked like they were drifting into the make up. No startling colours, just beautifully, perfectly matched.

I remember Prescriptives from high school and college and it was very different from anything out at that time it was super cool! Why can’t that exist now?

Over the years I’ve come to realize that a brand being purchased by EL is the kiss of death. EL makes one of my favorite fragrances ever, but I won’t buy it any longer. It’s the same with Coty - they buy a brand and muck it up or shut it down completely.

Take me back to the days of the St.Ives apricot scrub.. the harder I scrub and the more it burns the better it will turn out on my fragile teenage skin 🤦♀️

Rodin was very popular among luxury lovers back in the day and I remember buying a lip from then I believe they had a very small makeup collection before they disappeared now it makes sense what happened.

The Prescriptives custom foundation is still my favorite! Had the brand survived, it would probably be even better now, just because makeup has evolved so much since 2010.
