I had two root canals on my lower front incisors 57 years ago. One finally went bad and I had an apico. It did not heal. I had a second apico on that same tooth, and an apico on the other root canal tooth. It did not heal. The surgeon said I needed a root canal on the tooth next to one of the previous root canal tooth. The endodonist did not think so. The infection has never gone away (pimple on the gum comes and goes, but not any pain). I am at the point, after almost two years of dealing with this, to have the two root canal teeth pulled and replaced with a bridge. At my age (65), not too worried about bone loss due to two missing teeth, bridged with fake teeth. There must be a micro crack in one of the 57 year old root canal teeth that can't be seen on the 3D scanner, is my guess. I am no dentist, just speculating.

OMG. I would never have had root canals if I knew what I know today. I had 7 root canals, and I still haven't figured out why my teeth were becoming infected in the first place. (It's not like I neglect my teeth, I take care of them and see the dentist every 6 months). The first one, (the only bottom one), is still there. It was done in 1992. My family dentist did it. He took some kind of screw, and twisted it in by hand, jamming it deep into my jaw. He pushed down with great force, and I watched his elbow point up toward the ceiling as he leaned into it. When it was finally all the way in, he would RIP it out. Over and over he did this, until he was satisfied the roots were cleaned out. It took hours. It was crazy. I had another one done in Hudson NY. I wanted to go to an Endodontist, but he assured me he could do it. ”Ive done hundreds" Well, right in the middle of the procedure, he got up and left. He went down the hall and found 3 other dentists who came and gawked at it. No one could figure it out. I had extra roots or something like that, and they couldn't find them. He said, "Well I don't have time to finish this today, so you'll have to make an appointment and come back". Right in the middle of the root canal! I tried to find a different dentist or Endodontist, but no one would touch it because he was in the middle of it, and I guess they didn't want to step on any toes. It took 4 appointments to complete one root canal. And it was never right. The rest I had done by Endodontists. All of the top ones failed within 5 to 10 years. Only the 1992 one survives today. (Maybe the old ways are better. lol). Anyway, I'm a traveling nurse, and my root canals were failing all over the country. I'd have to find oral surgeons, in whatever big city or backwater podunk I found myself, who would take a first-time patient, 'today!' Most of the time I had to wait. About a year or two after the NY tooth debacle, I was brushing my teeth and noticed my gum was sore, so I pulled the corner of my mouth back to have a look. There was a nasty infection bulging beneath the surface, between that NY root canal and another one done in Texas. The Texas tooth. Then all hell broke loose! It was a domino effect, one tooth failed right after the other. It was a nightmare. They must have been infected all along. For years. All of my top back molars. Today, all of those teeth are gone and I am having implants put in. I've had 2 placed, and one of those failed a couple years after it was placed, but my oral surgeon is replacing it (for free) I just wonder if the implants will fail like the root canals. I don't think so, even though I've had one fail already. It must have been because of all the damage done, and I need more time for the bone graft structure to develop. Thanks for posting this, it gives me hope. I may not end up toothless after all.

I am 62 over the last decade or so I have had four root canals. In the last few years two of these root canal have been replaced with titanium implants. I put as much research into getting the implants as I did getting the root canals.....none regretfully ( mistake #1). I had a dull pain in my first root canal and when I ask my dentist about it years ago after procedure was just done he said "oh that just a little ghost pain, it's normal don't worry about it" (mistake#2). Five years ago I spent sixteen days in the hospital on death doorstep with strep in my liver. I was "cured" by four small drains in my liver, a large drain between my liver and lungs, and massive amounts of antibiotics for two and a half months. When I asked how did I get strep in my liver? the doctors shrugged their shoulders and said we don't it is rare but happens. Last December I watched a video on rumble called "Root Cause" Controversial because it challenges the conventional norms to this day. One of the three pathogens fostered by root canals listed in the video was strep. Alarms bells started ringing in my brain. Another symptom described in the video was associated back pain. I was shocked and certain I had a rotten root canal for years and new exactly which tooth root it was! My wife thought I was crazy as with most people I mentioned it to. At my next teeth cleaning( every Four months) I mentioned the video and my suspicions to my new dentist ( the old dentist retired, best thing that he ever did for me!) My new dentist told me the video "Root Cause" was folklore and disproven. I past his exam However he was kind enough to shoot my suspect root canal with Novocain to see if it had a affect on my now persistent back pain. The symptom of referred back pain was mentioned in the video. The shot helped my back pain, not completely but enough to pursue this issue. I went to my oral surgeon who was referred by my "new" dentist. Together they had replaced two of my four root canals at this point in time already with titanium implants( mistake #3?). I arrived at the oral surgeon without referral. I mentioned the video "Root Cause" and pointed to my rotten root. I said this root canal was a problem since the day it was done I want it out. He told me that that video is folklore and has been disproven we argued for five minutes until he said "well let's take a look" He stuck that pick under the gum line and instant pain... "Oh that's got a big crack in it and has to come out now" MIND you he has a 3D cone beam ex-ray machine imaging machine and had used it on me at least four times at this point and had never noticed this major root issue! He removed the tooth that day and put a root graph over it( mistake #4) and send me on my way without antibiotics(mistake#5). After the first three days I was feeling better, after that it got progressively more painful. I did not communicate this to him(mistake#6). The next day the pain was so much I could not think straight. Which I believe was a factor in a car accident. I was at fault when I rear ended someone in the rain and totaled our BMW(mistake#7) on the way to work. He tried to fix the situation with antibiotics and more antibiotics, which did not help as I am amoxie immuned and they did not ask about that( mistake#8). Very upset with his work and attitude. I switched surgeons to his sister in the same practice(no regrets) who is a better listener with a better chairside manner. The pain persisted, but was nothing compared to what was to come. She removed the bone graph her brother installed and then debrided it... that was so painful I cried tears. It turned out the infection in the tooth socket had gone up into my sinus. The pain continued and slowly improved with a different antibiotic. Soon I am scheduled for a sinus lift. I am left with anxiety over the dilemma of titanium or zirconium. Which I wish I would have thought about before the first two titanium implants. As I have developed itchy skin under my belly ,arm pits and neck. I also have been fatigued. I do however feel my overall health has improved since getting that stinking root canal removed. I feel twenty years younger. I think root canals are like putting lipstick on a pig. they leave the rotten root in your head and put a pretty crown on it and forget about it. Medicine at it's finest! As for what I blame my diet(sugar, alcohol, and refined grain and hygiene)( mistake #9), pour research on my behalf(mistake#10). Check out "ROOT CAUSE" on rumble and diagnose your self like I did!

So if you could do it again, would you refuse the bone graft & implants? Pretty sure I'm sensitive to nickel, possibly other metals... I keep reading how just getting the failed root canal tooth pulled (it's a lower 1st molar, I believe) will cause adjacent teeth to lean in towards each other & cause super eruption of some upper teeth. Was told there's infection & a hole in my jaw. Dentist recommends redo of RC; I want it out but am afraid of consequences. I just don't think my health is worth keeping one dead tooth.

Your story is crazy. I'm due to get an extraction, bone graft and implant starting next week for an infected and supposedly cracked root canal crown(which they can't seem to be able to find the crack on the x-ray...SIGH) I'm freaking out doing tons of research because I feel there's really no good option and do not want to risk my future health with a risky implant. Is the moral of your story that you would go with zirconia implants instead of titanium? I don't think yanking without replacement is an option either because I've already pulled the tooth behind it and know missing teeth cause facial structure issues. Please share more!

@@louisdefusco411 I'm researching, too. I think the least invasive seems to be a partial denture. Just learned of something called tooth transplantation, where they can relocate a good tooth (a molar was shown) into the empty space where it's more needed. I have no idea of the success rate or cost. Was told if it would have been my second molar (rather than first), that I could've just gotten it removed and left it vacant if I'd wanted. I also read about & saw an example of someone getting braces: they had a gap in the back from a missing molar. That lone tooth in the back was anchored to the others in the front, and it was moved up to be next to the others.

@@nancyk5203 It's kind of hard to say but I think maybe. I had #6 pulled 15 years ago and couldn't afford to replace it so I left it. This is actually my fiance's youtube account. I am a women. I'm telling you that because they say if you have missing teeth, you can start to have some facial structure issues and have tissue and bone shift which is important to anyone..man or woman but especially women as I feel as our beauty is rooted in symmetry. I would say on that side(right side) that there seems to be shrinkage if you will. The right side of my face isn't as full as my left but its not so alarming that it looks 'off' to others but I notice it. I think pulling a second tooth next to it and not replacing it would very well cause some obvious structural issues. I was actually due to start the process and extract tomorrow morning and I just cancelled. After researching titanium implants for the last several days and reading tons of the stories from patients who have had titanium put in where the implants have either failed or they've had health issues shortly after is not a risk I'm willing to take as I already have auto-immune issues. I'm stuck in limbo for the moment doing more research...which is also a catch 22 because the longer an infection sits the more bone loss you can have. I've already inquired with a few holistic offices regarding zirconia so that's probably the route I'll take. The transplant sounds like the most biocompatible and I haven't heard of it but not sure that would be an option for me as the tooth that needs replacing is #5 and pretty small but I will look into it. The thought of 'dentures' scares me but I will research it further also. These stories are just too horrifying to move forward without caution!

Part 2 of 4: I think @JD-mm7ur should have stated that ‘chronically infected root canals’, whether root canal treated (RCT) or not, (aka apical periodontist) is a precursor for systemic disease which includes CVDs. Ask any endodontist if they can guarantee that 100% of ALL the necrotic tissue is removed during a RCT, they will say NO. When most people have an infected RCT at the apex of the root, there is often no symptoms or pain due to the treated tooth having no nerves (as what happened in my case). These infections can go unnoticed for years despite routine dental cleanings and check-ups (happened to me, I get cleanings 2x’s year and get X-rays once a year). Obviously diabetes and smoking does increase this outcome probability but I am neither diabetic nor have I ever smoked and in overall good physical and oral health having a very healthy diet (I’m in my 40’s) and yes it still happened to me. My dentist and endodontist are both bemused by my case and currently using my experience for their professional studies.

I rushed to the city to get a 3d xray and sure enough I have a giant cyst that has gave me bone loss. I now need to have my failed toxic root canal tooth removed , cyst removed, and bone graft. This really sucks , I had no idea about the 3d XRAY as I always go to cleanings etc every 4 months. I will take your advice and hope to get the implant in about 5-7 months. The periodontist who looked at my 3d scan seemed concerned that there might not be enough bone on the upper jaw, esp around the infection. What are the chances I’ll have to wear a regular denture instead of teeth that day. I think I’d rather keep wearing a partial with a front tooth than full denture. Bottom jaw was not a problem. My “hot tooth” sensation came back after the root canal. It’s the most sensitive tooth I’ve ever had, so much so that I couldn’t be fully numbed during the procedure either. I felt the very deep pokes and no amount of shots the dentist gave me helped. Now 3 months post op, I’m having migraines, cheek swelling and sharp pains from that tooth. I’ve had several X-rays done since then, but my dentist is insistent that the canals look fine and is convinced it’s the crown not fitting properly. She didn’t detect an infection, but prescribed me antibiotics anyways and drilled down the crown a bit. I’m just supposed to wait and see. Does this sound abnormal?

Hi, thank you for this video. I am searching for a periodontist in my area who is as knowledgeable as you about this scenario. I am in a situation now where my implant is failing and I’m told I need to remove and bone graft and replace. The tooth that was extracted previously was a failed root canal with a massive abscess in my bone. I don’t think my dentist was experienced in how to treat such a case. He was surprised that my bone was taking longer to grow back, as you indicated would probably happen in this video. What specifically should he have done to make sure the area and bone was completely cleaned of infection? My implant has been in place 5-6 years but apparently has slowly lost bone around it. I suspect bc of bacteria/infection from previous root canal infection. Is there a chance to save my implant at this point by cleaning and bone grafting or need to remove implant and start over? I want to make sure I have a specialist who knows how to treat a case like this. I really don’t want it to fail again. Thank you for the info. I have been trying to figure out why my implant has failed so to avoid it happening again. I’m a healthy and in my 30’s.

1st root canal in Nov. & I told my dentist 3 times & endo once that my tooth still hurt. It felt like it did prior to RC! It’s top L molar, #15, & impossible for both Dr’s to work on! I hear their griping. 😅Argh! Guess I was doomed from the start. Endo tried Clindamycin & no help. Crown is waiting for me, but doubt I’ll be able to get it. 😓 Endo opened it back up a few days ago & injected the chloride whatever med/solution & put temporary back in. I have to go back in 2 mos! But it’s pretty sore now. Anyone know if there’s any chance I can save my tooth?

Hello I have a question, completely unrelated to the video, but this is your most recent one haha. I recently had wisdom teeth extracted and have been told to rinse w/ warm salt water after every meal & every time I vape. This is about 6-8 times a day. Is there a point where too much salt water can damage the other teeth in your mouth? Also, when should patients stop rinsing with salt water? Thanks!

Say I have a root canal, how often should I get a ct scan for it? Once a year? What is the infection gets systemic within a few months? There's a lot of controversy about root canals, one of the arguments being that the infection is not always completely gone and can show up later on. So what frequency do you recommend after getting root canal to make sure everything is ok?

I had tooth that the infection spread into the bone in my jaw. It had been infected for quite awhile. When I had the tooth pulled. They removed pieces of damaged infected bone. I was on antibiotics for ten days. My X-Ray look good now and infection is gone. I can have my impressions for my full dentures. Now if they catch it early which in my case they didn't. Usually it doesn't cause enough damage to bone. Where it needs to be removed. Usually antibiotics and if you decide to get implants. You will probably need bone grafting. For me probably within the next several years. I will need bone grafting. To continue to wear my removable dentures. So don't automatically think your situation. Will be like mine because a lot more likely that it won't be like mine.

Well the dental hygienist told her to gargle with hydrogen peroxide and water because she has bacteria in her mouth. Isn’t this indicative of negligence on the dentists part? How do I know if I have infection if nerves in tooth are removed? My root canal treated teeth feel a bit weird and one has very, very slight pain when I tap on it. My dentist says everything is fine and I wonder if it doesn't hurt his ego if I say I want prescription for 3D cat scan. I don't know if he is aware of this knowladge on hidden infections. I'm 24 and have an appointment for root canal next monday. I'm conflicted as to whether I should just get it extracted and an implant. I've heard bad things from root canals but I figured I could try it as the process for getting it done is shorter and then if it doesn't work I can get the extraction and implant. Main thing is I just want to feel comfortable again where I actually enjoy my life. Currently going through swelling and I've been having trouble with this tooth for two years going to the dentist and they said it was just sinus issues. Seems like they always put off the small pain until its completely fucked but that's what worries me for the root canal, theres been too much farting around the past 2 years and now my tooth is doomed? IDK ill probably make a quick last minute decision but for now its the root canal. Anyone's shared experience of what you think I should do would be helpful.

So, what should someone do if a 35 year old filling falls out? There is pain, or abnormal tooth sensation. Probably no tooth material left for more drilling+filling. I guess the dentist will say 'root canal'. Should the tooth just be pulled? I wish I had never allowed a dentist to drill it, because I've had cavities that filled in themselves, and some never filled in but never got worse in 25+ years. My view is dentists are out for money, and they don't know all they should about teeth. How are we to decide these things? Make a flowchart for patient decision making 😁

So, I went to a dentist and he did say 'root canal'. I said I thought a tooth could be refilled, but he said no. He said there won't be enough tooth left after he drills it out some more. And he said that my bone is infected. So, a) I don't understand why they have to drill it out more, but ok, let's say that is true. It doesn't have pain unless a hard nut goes in it and I bite down on it. B) I don't see how root canals solve anything. If my bone has infection from the bacteria in the cavity, don't I need my lymph system to fight it? Don't I need circulation? How does the root canal benefit? I never see that explained. Why not just put a cap on without a root canal? Pain? But I don't have pain. This is very frustrating!!! And we are forced to just do as told because dentist time is worth too much money to explain!! This is really bs!! The system needs changing if we are not even allowed full explanations and understandings!!
