Hey guys! This is interview 2 of 5 on the question of how hard we should train in the gym! Next I'll be uploading my conversation with Stefi Cohen, then Eric Helms and finally Greg Nuckols ... and then we'll move onto new topics :) If you want to check the full compilation video, you can do so on my main channel here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/o6CvqpWukqKIa6Q Peace!

I’m back looking at all of Johns content. Thank you Jeff for sharing this interview with the world. You and John have really helped take my bodybuilding to the next level. I used to work out, but with no real substance or understanding for longevity and how to train close to failure, with keeping in mind recovery. I learned so much and will continue sharing Johns workouts with people in my gym. I enjoy seeing others get great results as well.

Amazing Video and cannot wait to watch the rest. Question though, for Back training.....if the total sets per week is 15-20 sets per muscle, is that "Lat" training, or is that Traps, teres, rhomboid training? So do we have 15-20 sets for the lats, and a separate count for the traps etc?

19:05 "For me, I think that intensity almost has to come first, because you could do the most optimized volume imaginable, right, [...] but if there's no intensity, you're not gonna grow well." So it's treason, then.

Lol, nope! I’ve been saying this forever. Unless you hit a sufficient effort/intensity threshold, whatever volume you do won’t be very effective. In my Fundamentals Series from 2018 I put “Effort” on the second rung on the ladder, just above safety/consistency. Of course, that doesn’t mean volume doesn’t matter (it does, a lot), it’s just that the effort threshold takes precedence.

@@TheJeffNippardPodcast I'm only joking. I thought the Emperor Palpatine meme would be a giveaway. Just poking fun at the "science vs bro intensity debate" that's been raging recently.

I know what it means but "beyond failure" training rubs me the wrong way. You can't train beyond failure by definition, what you can do is modify the exercise and continue failing.

Bodybuilding (hypertrophy) its always intensity orientated not volume. Volume is for endurance athletes not size/hypertrophy ones. Indeed you need volume but intensity is slightly more important. In other sports its different.
