This is a clip from a recent lecture. This video wasn't shared for personal gain or advertising. I shared it because it speaks about the important topic of Fair Treatment & Pay for Imams, which is an area of concern for most Imams. This discussion may be of benefit for many Imams and their communities. May Allah grant success and acceptance 🤲🏼🤍

Jazakallahu Khairan Shaykh for speaking out on this issue. I wish there's more Imams like yourself raising awareness. We must prepare our next generations of youth to tackle the challenges they'll face in the future while preserving thier imaan. This will not happen until Imams are treated with, respect, fairness and dignity!

Its a good thing to discuss.at the very least they should be paid minimum wage to make a reasonable living.Local pay below the minimum wage

It's so heartbreaking, the imaams have one of the most honorable jobs there is to have! Tireless work & raising a community on their shoulders - the fact that we even have to suggest minimum wage just to give them a decent living is honestly apalling..

They should be paid the rate of a ... TEACHER! More in my opinion, because they have more qualifications than normal teachers. They do the alim course which is very rigorous . They spend more time acquiring knowledge than normal public school teachers It is only fair, they are paid at least £35k a year We don't need all these illiterate committee members from mirpur. It's a sad state

Assalamu alaykum sheikh, thank you for this very insightful video. I completely agree with the points that you have made. I think one of the reasons for unfair pay + treatment of imams (I’m not saying this is right just saying my thoughts) is that the level of funds for masaajid are very low (I.e masaajid struggling to pay other operating costs) and funding models are very donor reliant (there is little diversification of income sources and if there are other sources like clothes + books shops these are very hard to maintain, run and make profit off of). Do you have any ideas, thoughts, suggestions etc. about how this can be improved?

100% reality, why when we have a Imam serving the community for such good, we can't pay them more than a school teacher, every Imam deserve £40k minimum across uk

I think if imams are paid based on performance (e.g how good their Khutbahs are) that would be a beautiful thing.

Who decides how good a khutbah is though? What the shaykh here is saying is currently imams are paid unfairly. In some cases, below minimum wage. This is extremely unfair

How good a khutbah is is immesurable... not very a smart comment

Its definitely wrong to deny imams employment contracts and pay below minimum wage. Having said that, there's a clear difference in the way that people act after a good khutbah and after an average khutbah. Its actually a very objective thing. I would know, as I'm actually an imam in real life. And i dislike hearing about imams that really dont serve this deen as is its due.

Sometimes there's are limited resources though. Depending on the area and masjid, there might not be many qualified imaams available to them.

If now we are gonna be paying imams based on performance, that will most certainly affect their niyyah which can lead to riyyah

Stop waffling. You're not Bengoli. You're Sylheti.

Before you comment, at least do your research and get your facts right. Sylhet is a city of Bangladesh. So obviously his Bangladeshi. A lot of the times we just say we're Bengali and that has become common and easy for people to understand.

@rofz5684 before you try to be a hero, learn before talking. Sylhet is a region. Consisting of Surma Valley and Barak Valley. Sylhetis are indigenous to Bangladesh and India. There are more Sylheti people in India actually. So take this Bangladeshi equates to Bengali idea out of your head. Bangladeshi = nationality. Bengali = ethnicity.

@@simonkaggwanjala I think something is seriously wrong with you. Before you teach others wrong stuff, go and educate yourself first. Actually before anything, go and sort out your attitude. That's why basic manners is so important otherwise no one will even listen to you.

@rofz5684 I already proved you wrong. You relegated Sylhet to a city. When in fact it is a region. You are a clown. Go learn before talking 💩 on the internet. Humble yourself. Sort your attitude out.

@@simonkaggwanjala In regards to more Sylhetis in India. Before more people laugh at you, stop with this nonsense. There's Bengalis in India due to Kolkota, not Sylhetis.
