Nick Rhodes Orch Hit on A View to a Kill was taken from a Jazz CD. For copyright reasons, he says, he can't tell what it is. The same sample is in Arcadia's The Flame. This Fairlight sample is one of the biggest curiosities I have.

I realy like your videos about the Fairlight, the dream machine of my teenagehood It would be fun if one day Sarah, who said "Ah" in mike decades ago, was identified. Who is she, how old is she, does she know, as maybe a grandmother, that her voices is widespread across the Hearth since 40 years? 😀

Sarah Cohen was the original person providing the voice. No one seems sure what happened to her. :D

@@100ThingsIDo Cool! Thank you for this info. The problem is her name is a very common name, I guess there're thousand of Sarah Cohen in Australia and its vincinity. To find her we need an androïd, knocking at doors and asking "Sarah Conn... hm.., Cohen?" 😉

Loving the fact that you used a white keyboard at least. Orch 7 low down with Reverb somewhat reminded me of T2. Looking forward to see what sort of Frankenstein's creation this system actually is; on the subject of Series 1 voice cards I'm somewhat surprised you haven't acquired that set of voice cards, panel and backplane that's been on ebay for a while. Also looking forward to the MFX+ that Cris mentioned.

hey NativeVS! Yeh... we will have to do something about the keyboard for sure......... :P ... as to the voice cards.. I am tempted .. but they are very serious money for 'unknown condition' cards. All all from a Series 1 so the Computer part is quite slow (i'm basically running a IIx computer in this clip) and the Master card and a Voice card are missing...... its Tempting .. but would make the cards amost $800us each! :O I have another plan...................................

Great video - but all sounds are very muffled. Doesn´t sound like the original CMI II. Or maybe the filter is too low ?
@100ThingsIDo
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Ramon, hope things are great with you. There is a few things going on here, one is its a very very early sound card (Series 1 with no real way to tune the filters), Also I have the sound only slightly buffered from the direct out from the card its-self. I was tempted to open the filter fully and play back (like I did later with Sarah.vc) but I wanted to give the flavour of the series 1 card as much as I could also.

So does that run on a Windows PC? Or is that all custom built based on the Fairlight CMI? Either way I did download the sample library at one point. And I couldn't find the ORCH## samples beyond a few and I got more interested in this CMI stuff alongside the Resynator. Like the CMI sounds are 8-Bit but I like that because I play the O.G. Doom with mods a lot which use 8-Bit sample rates for its sound bits. And Skinny Puppy even sampled all sorts of stuff with an Ensoniq that rendered at 8-Bit audio too. :D Quite rad from what I learn. \m/
