Summerset and Fairtime are 2 fine quality late season Peaches developed by the prolific USDA Hybridizer Dr John Weinberger at the USDA Research Station in Fresno California in the 1960's. These varieties have similar traits because they share a common parent, but differ in ripening times by 2 weeks in September. This is typically the end of peach time in California. We were lucky to get fruit from the Summerset Peach due to our late visit (Sept 18th), but were surprised by what we found and the excellent quality. Both share large size, heavy cropping, excellent flavor lasting from firm to soft ripe and a wide range of culinary usages. Not sure of the range of adaptation as there late ripening could be a problem for areas with shorter summers...........let me know
