I went out herping one night in the woods in Pottstown Pa to film a video for Nature Now, after visiting our good friend Nicole. I found nothing other than the usual toads, spring peepers and other vernal pool critters. I saw a damselfly larva swim by so I picked it up for a closer look. Low and behold, it was a fairy shrimp! I was so excited to finally find these branchipoda after wanting to see them since I was young. In some areas they are supposed to be common but I have never found them before. They are about an inch and a half long and very neat to watch. They are an important food source for many birds and fish. #wildlife #shrimp #nature
