Oddly enough, I'd always done my Mike Patton Karaoke voice with a very nasal style and it worked alright but it just wasnt correct...then one day I thought I'd check for a vocals only version of Epic, and holy shit... It turns out he isnt singing through his nose to make that tone. He is doing it in the back of his throat in a way similar to Bradley from Sublime, you just can't hear it with the rest of the music playing. Look up Epic -Vocals isolated And listen to the chorus, specifically, "CAN'T GRAB IT" he is actually singing those notes like a soul singer, like James Brown maybe. Anyway, I just found that the vocal isolation videos found on here changed how I looked at Mike Patton's singing and now I understand what he is doing. Brilliant stuff.
@WeerdMunkee

He stopped doing it because he not only knew he was capable of so much more, but he also didn't want to get trapped as that kind of singer. Personally, I'm glad he ditched it.
