Falcon Seelster would have defeated Nihilator in The Jug on this day and probably defeated Nihilator in the $50,000 Invitational at The Meadowlands had he parked out Nihilator in that event had he refused to yield!. If only we could go back in time. The 2 greatest 3 year old colts of all time. Unfortunately we can't so, with that being said, Tom Harmer, no disrespect intended to one of harness racing's primier conditioners, brought back the "The Falcon" too soon in The Presidential Series in Mid January at The Meadowlands dooming his fate by denying this great super pacer the time he deserved to rest and mature in order to ensure his readiness against the likes of Forrest Skipper!!!.

Love listening to Roger call races. My Dad was also an announcer in Ohio (still does Old Washington at age 82!) and he always said Roger was incomparable, and one of the best ever. As for Falcon, I remember this race and the inaugural Battle of Lake Erie as my two favorite for Falcon. I was there for Battle Night, and it was excellent. I also laughed when I heard the trailer....O B's Falcon Eddie. I 100% remember that horse....despite all the years!

Lol..Yes Charlie Day and George Steinbrenner had shared ownership.. He paced that day after a blizzard the night before in 158.2 winning by about 12 lengths.. The race was mid card and the track was listed as good.. It got better by the end of the day.. Even so, a 58 mile was really something at the old Lewiston race way..I was there also..Falcon look like pro basket ball player vs a bunch of high school kids. He was so much bigger and almost ran over the starting car...Pretty special event..

Yes Casy would have fractured that time no doubt..He had the best hands at that time on a half- mile..That's what he learned on at Lewiston/Scarborough downs in Maine.. I watched this race from the Meadowlands that day, I remember Falcon Seelster not being eligible for the Jug.This was the last race of the jug day on the card. Nihilator had been in the Jug earlier and everyone was raving about him. He went his mile if I recall 52 and change. I really think Falcon Seelster would have beaten him that day. This was a kick ass mile. true Nihilator did beat him, but sadly they never put Nihilator against the top older horses f the year, would have been interesting.

This was just a $4000 Invitational, on Jug day! They stole the show from Nihilator who won the Jug later that afternoon. They brought Falcon there that day, to dispute who the better 3yo colt was. This mile (1:51) was unthinkable for it's day in 1985. It obliterated the previous world record on a half mile track. Falcon would eventually face Nihilator, but it was at the Meadowlands (a 1 mile oval), and Nihilator and O'Donnell did get the better of him that day. Still, for me this was one of the greatest performances ever by a standardbred racehorse......and the race call wasn't too bad either!

Roger Huston helps to keep harness racing small-time...his calls are over the top, very hokey, and make the race all about him! He reminds me of the NY Yankees' awful radio announcer John Sterling, who also thinks that the broadcast is all about him. Thoroughbred fans and general sports fans cringe when they hear a Huston call, and get reinforcement for their erroneous opinion that harness racing is a bush sport. P.S.--Nihilator was dominant only on mile tracks and would have lost this day.
