Those of you who worry that one nesting is getting more to eat than the other can see from this (edited) video that, when there is a large prey, such as this pigeon, both are fed until they are stuffed! And there is always plenty of prey, large and small, at this site.
When the adult is feeding the nestlings, they will usually select the mouth closest and most insistent. This can mean that that one youngster sometimes gets more than an equal share. There is a good reason for this. At times of prey scarcity, the parent can be sure that at least one nestling, the strongest, survives. When the strongest nestling is full, they cease to eat and the adult can focus on the others.
Both this year's nestlings are strong and appear togenerally be eating equally. And there is plenty of prey. We are getting five to six feed daily. And at this site, no nestling has ever died of starvation.
