Series did not shy from brutality of combat so far, but explosion of violence in this episode is shocking in best posible way!

It was amazingly abrupt, even though we'd had incidences that showed what the violent world of DnD could offer, I still found myself unprepared for it. As did most everyone else in the dungeon, too. Haha!

I love that Shuro and Laios's needed tension resolution goes from a fist fight to essentially a squabble between two siblings by the end. It's such a funny way to resolve something that would otherwise be very uncomfortable to bring up.

I think kui likes to go against a lot of traditional story lines in fantasy epos. Here for example the traditional storyline would go "Love overcomes everything" with shuro not eating and taking care of himself just showing his devotion which would eventually become the key in success. But instead the story says "No actually. By not taking care of yourself you are weakening yourself and therefore becoming unable to reach your goal" And I really like that message. I also think its hilarious that the power truly lies in good mental healthcare XD

You know, outside of owies a lot of fantasy storytelling focuses mainly on a reactionary form of hardship. *X thing happens to Y person and this is the result.* But there really is something to be said about the logistics of keeping up that fighting spirit and the energy to persevere. It kind of goes back to how crafting a story through a focused lens can more often than not give greater insight and creativity than just having an open-ended general approach to storytelling. Ryoko Kui has clearly tapped into that niche and demonstrated mastery over it. It's SOO good!

The number of times I've had this happen in games... sometimes, all you can do is just stand there motionless like Laios while the world falls down around you.... in game!

I like that they play pretty much Dark Souls boss music when she shows up.

"It was your black magic and the dragon meat!" "No, it was something that interfered with my black magic and the dragon meat."
