Anand Daunde: Fall Armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda : A Threat to Food Security. Fall Armyworm (FAW) is an insect pest that feeds on more than 80 plant species, including maize corn, rice, sorghum and sugarcane. It has a voracious appetite, reproduces and spreads quickly, under favourable environmental conditions. Since late 2016 Fall armyworm has been spread across much of sub-Saharan Africa. Recently during 2018, it is reported from states of Karnataka and Telangana in India. Fall Armyworm considered deadly as it has caused massive agricultural yield losses in several countries in Africa. Governments, regional and international organisations around the world are working together to identify the best way to manage this major pest, which is threatening food security.
