Ohio by Stephen Markey. An amazing book. It’s basically a look at the decline of the quality of life of people in Ohio because of de-industrialization. It focuses on a group of teenagers, the fucked up shit they did to each other, and then moves back and forth to also show where they are now. It deals with drug abuse, murder, economic inequality, grand historical narratives etc etc. I’ve literally read this book 5 times. Someone help. If you read it I need similar recommendations 😆

I can not agree with you more about open endings. I resent the author and I get sooo mad. It’s so satisfying when the author creates a wonderful ending and resolves all your questions, like you feel that every little detail was purposely organized throughout the story and all makes sense. Very difficult indeed but extremely enjoyable. With open endings, you have lots of unanswered questions and frustration.

If it were a movie.. i wouldn't mind. But in books, please just give us some peace. If authors really want to have an open end.. maybe answer most but one minor question.. idk. Normalize a good satisfying close ending 👌

Emily, one of the things that keeps me coming back to your videos is the variety of genres that you read. Thank you for NOT being a one-trick pony! I've read several of the books on your (best) list (Dark Matter, The Long Walk, The sun Down Motel, Sharp Objects) and agree that they are worth anyone's reading time. If I may, here are some of my favorite thrillers which you might want to consider in the future: Marathon Man - William Goldman Killshot - Elmore Leonard The Runaway Jury - John Grisham Hit Man - Lawrence Block Open Season - C.J. Box Where Eagles Dare - Alistair MacLean Ice Station - Matthew Reilly Vanishing Act - Thomas Perry The Alienist - Caleb Carr
