In this special episode, we showcase our subscriber, Phillip, who won the opportunity to go fly fishing with me and be featured in one of our episodes through a drawing. But why did I do this? It extends beyond a mere fishing excursion. Connecting with people, especially our dedicated followers, brings me genuine joy. This is my way of expressing gratitude for all the support we receive.
Phil and I coordinated our trip through a phone call, choosing the White River downstream from Beaver Lake as our fishing destination. During our planning, Phil also invited me to join him and his friends for a fishing expedition on Taneycomo in Branson, an offer I gladly accepted. The day, including night fishing for remarkable Brown Trout, turned out to be a magical experience.
Meeting up with Phil weeks later, equipped with GoPro cameras, we documented our day filled with laughter, shared meals, encountered a flock of turkeys, and soaked in the stunning scenery of the Ozarks. (I won't go into detail about the horrible wind we fought all-day)
Building connections in the fly fishing community extends beyond the love for the sport; it's about cultivating lasting relationships through shared experiences and mutual respect. Spending time on the water presents numerous opportunities to connect with fellow fly anglers, whether through conversations on riverbanks, sharing fishing stories, or collaborating on techniques.
These personal connections not only enhance the joy of fly fishing but also contribute to a sense of belonging within a community that values both the art and science of the sport. So, don't hesitate to say hello to a fellow angler and share a moment - you might discover a new fishing companion and a lasting friendship.
Thank you Phillip for sharing your time with me and supporting my adventures.

1/125 oz Marabou Jig - Olive from PJ's Tackle Co
How to with Jigs: Suspend a small Marabou Jig (1/125 oz) below a strike indicator 18 to 24 inches depending on depth of water. Drift the jig downstream with the wind or current or just let it sit still. Sometimes popping the jig and float and hesitating between pops is effective. I used 6X tippet with this setup.
