With the temperature dropping and the first few leaves changing colour I have partnered with @rei to share my fall hiking essentials. I have learned from a lot of personal experience that having the proper gear makes these chillier hikes a lot safer and more enjoyable.
⠀ ⠀
🍁A breathable sweat-wicking baselayer top.
⠀ ⠀
🍂Lined tights (or mid-weight hiking pants if you prefer)
⠀ ⠀
🍁Thicker merino wool socks (merino is breathable, sweat wicking and will help prevent blisters)
⠀ ⠀
🍂Water resistant (or proof) hiking boots with great tread - especially in the mountains when overnight frost can make rocks extra slippery.
⠀ ⠀
🍁A mid layer such as a fleece, a flannel, a vest or any combination!
⠀ ⠀
🍂A thick down jacket (or synthetic if you prefer) for when you take breaks, stop hiking or in case of an emergency.
⠀ ⠀
🍁A toque (beanie for my American friends) and gloves as well as a rain jacket - even when the weather does not call for them.
⠀ ⠀
🍂And don’t forget your ten essentials including ample water, snacks, a headlamp (especially for these shorter days) and navigation (I used my @garminoutdoors InReach mini).
