Fyi… the Fällkniven knives are made in Japan, not Sweden. The company, design etc is all Swedish but they’re produced in Japan. Btw… it’s pronounced “fell-knee-ven” and the “k” is not silent.

Norwegian here, in every Scandinavian language you are supposed to pronounce the K, so in the word KNIV (knife) you pronounce every letter. So it’s Fäll K N I V E N.

Nice review, I have the F and the S. They really shine in a camping bushcraft situation. When I’m out there I carry a more tactical tool but I bring these along for grunt work. Just a heads up belt sharpening may be best for the blade shape if your doing more than stropping, I saw a guy really ruin his using stone sharpening, the sides of his knife was getting scraped during the sharpening process.

Hey John, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I got the exact same knife, like you´ve said, it´s a user knife. Woodprocessing in first place. It´s a really strong tool. Also in my collection is the A1 (regular), F1 (regular) and a F1 pro. If I had to buy Fällkniven knives again (given I wouldn´t have one, but knowing how they perform) I would surely go for the F1 pro again, it´s just great and strong! Between A1 (regular) and S1x it´s more difficult. But maybe the best choice would be the A1 x, best characteristics of the two models. But you´ve said they are made in Sweden? I think thats not correct, they are made in Japan. The Fällkniven company sits in Sweden, yes. I ordered a VARUSTELEKA Terävä Skrama 240. It´s on it´s way to me. Am very excited about that, I already got the Terävä Jääkäripuukko 140 and I´m very happy with it! Overal a great knife for the price. I guess the both together will make a good set of wood tools (maybe it´s a bit overdone, but it´s fun) Do you have experience with the knives from VARUSTELEKA? Cheers Torsten

Way overpriced. I don’t get how so many fall for this. Joker nomad is $100 with a convex. These knives are blanks punched out then machined. I don’t understand how the knife industry has people so fooled. I can buy a good gun for $200 you know how much more Machining and fitting a gun takes. Yet people believe knives are so difficult. I really don’t understand how people fall for this marketing. The SRK is basically the same knife just a different grind. But the SRk has better steel for cheaper 3v at what $150. Bet the SRk c will do everything this $300 knife will. Sk5 is basically 1085 a very good carbon steel. $38 can get a few knives just in case and have money to buy other stuff. Unless brand name does something special I’m not aware of.

Let´s put it this way: I bought the Fällkniven A1-model in 1999 when I served in the Swedish Marines. I bought it for survival purposes and I used it a lot. After that, I joined the Swedish Home Guard (kind of like the US National Guard) and served there for 11 years. Again, the knife saw a lot of use for bushcraft, etc. Only last year did I feel the need to sharpen the knife. Fällkniven, at least in Sweden, has a life time warranty on their blades. I sent it to them and I had it professionally sharpened for me for free. All I can say is, you get what you pay for and then some.

@@andersnoren6070 all those years in the military and you don’t know how to sharpen a knife? To me sharpening and warranty are just marketing . Knives I’ve bought if one broke I don’t want another one. I mean the first 30 days I can tell if it’s good or junk , I don’t need a life time warranty.

@@richardhenry1969 I know how to sharpen a knife. But why do it myself if the edge requires special attention and I can have it done for free and not fuck it up? You obviously missed the point completely. As I wrote, the edge lasted more than 20 years before it needed sharpening at all.

@@andersnoren6070 in my experience a used knife always needs sharpening. 20 years never needed sharpening. Guess that's unobtainium, that super steel only made once a year by steel 🧚♂️ fairy.

I have the A1X and the S1X, but will stop here with my Fallkniven purchases until they come out with an Elmax version of the A1X and S1X! The F series is useless to me because the Coldsteel Master Hunter is superior especially in the CPM-3V.
