This looks easier than the glitching I did for my roof. I’m going to revisit and install stairs like you did, but I’m curious if the roof could be patched to return the house to its original state.
@cryingcube2
Ай бұрын
I wasn't able to find a way to patch the roof without using mods or glitches (or even with glitches - I tried as many things as I could!). The remaining portion of the roof does not like contact with the build items. The angle of the roof is also difficult to work with. In my modded game, I was able to use Place Everywhere to change the angle of the barn roof tiles and overlay them on the existing roof. This worked pretty well but is impossible without using Place Everywhere. Without mods, you could potentially change the mesh tiles to wood and build a structure on top of roof - I haven't checked the build height for Taffington but that is the only option that I can think of.

Another good mod for building is Workshop Plus (by Kinggath). Among other things, it allows you to fly around while you are building. No need to build stairs and scaffolding for building. It is one of the mods that I miss most while building without mods. Here is a link to the Nexus page for Workshop Plus if you are interested: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/35005 Note that is also requires Mod Configuration Menu -www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/21497 and Workshop Framework - www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/35004 Check to make sure these will play nice with the other mods that you have installed if you want to try it out.

Very impressive. I did something similar, throwing a sniper nest up top facing the road and an artillery platform pointed toward the mutants across the river. Oddly enough, if you build over the water at this location it is possible to go 8-10 stories high before reaching the build ceiling. Also, those poor people. That pink food paste should be considered a war crime.
@cryingcube2
Ай бұрын
Thank you! I later added a missel turret to see if it would spot any of the mutants across the river but so far, no luck. I didn't test the build limit for Taffington but it is interesting that you can build so high above the water. It does open up building possibilities since the house takes up so much of the build space. As for the pink paste - (LOL) - I agree! I had it in my inventory and used it as a prop (it does add a bit of color to the space!).

@@cryingcube2 Well, I am going to be looking more :) I am a big fan of Skooled Zone - Given I was late to Fallout 4 and Skyrim (When I first played Fallout 4, Skyrim just had its THIRD re-release!!!), His glitches and tips have been a GOD SEND!!! I'm a big fan of the Skooled Zone too. I have generally always built with mods but recently, I decided to try with no mods. It is definitely challenging! Skooled zone does a fantastic job of explaining how to do glitches and has unique decorating ideas too. As for Hangman's alley and Vault 88, I was hoping that the NexGen update would fix the pathing issues that are very well know. In my modded game, the unofficial patch fixed Hangman's (not sure about Vault 88) but yikes - I haven't figured out how to deal with that without mods. I really need to think about that...

Great work! Loved how you demonstrated the method, and of course how the finished product looked. The only thing I can think that might be a factor is that the beds still aren't "covered" as far as settler happiness requirements go. Believe it or not, they have to have build items from the "roof" category, OR, in the wood building section, there are floor pieces that are two tiles thick called (I believe) upper floors. Apparently, the game mechanic still considers those as roofs for the purpose of covering beds. It's as frustrating as it is weird in my opinion, but it does seem to be true.
@cryingcube2
Ай бұрын
Thank you! Thanks also for letting me know about the happiness requirements. I haven't noticed a happiness drop in settlements where I use the wood floors as roofs - but the happiness calculation is complicated and I might be compensating for it elsewhere without realizing it. I am definitely going to look into this further.
@cryingcube2
Ай бұрын
I went back into the game and checked to see if the beds are uncovered using the wood floors. If you are on PC, you can open the console, click on the bed to select and then type getav 334. If a bed is uncovered, it will return a 0 and if it is covered, it will return a 1. Fortunately, all of the beds returned a 1 (yay!) so settlers will have to find different reason to be unhappy (and I'm sure they will!).

@@cryingcube2 Glad to be wrong in this case. I play on Xbox so I was just going on what others had said in their vids from when the game was new(ish). Perhaps the recent update took that requirement out? I started after the TV series came out and there was a deal on the game I couldn't pass up. I've only got two characters built, and with the game already beaten I'm just playing to create stuff now, so it is always great to get ideas from talented people like yourself.

@@bradyf9168 It complicated - Essentially, As long as there is a "Covering" - It can be a Normal Floor or a Upper Floor... Then it counts! I only know as I often use Wooden Floors from the Shack Builds as roofs when I want a cleaner look... (PS by the way!) It always been a bit iffy... The Mesh Floors I think are not supposed to count... I know they did not pre update... I had to re-Roof so many settlements as I like those mesh floors... LOL! But they are MESH - Rain gets through! That caused a bit of an issue with the Concrete Rooves though as they are supposed to be leak proof but one has a mesh to allow light in... Lets just say "It's Bethesda, Dont expect it to make sense! Just LOVE IT!"

The whole happiness thing is complicated. When I made City Plans for Sim Settlements 2, our Masters contest required that all four levels of our build would reach 100 happiness. I remember doing a lot of checking to make sure that the beds were always considered covered. I never tried the mesh floors (although it would make sense that they leak lol) but now I'm curious! Thanks for the tip on the wooded shack floors. I generally don't use them because I am mostly in the barn or warehouse section and it's faster to not switch back and forth (but I will check it out). And as far as Bethesda goes - I totally agree!

Thank you! I’ll be honest - it took a few tries. If it was too crooked or too far from either the corner or if it pushed into the corner too far - the ceiling either wouldn’t snap all the way around or it had big gaps between the wall and floor pieces. However since there aren’t too many pieces on either side, it wasn’t too problematic to take it down and reposition the wall. I hope that you will give it a try!

Glitches or exploits work pretty damn good once you get the hang of it. It just comes down to getting the correct view when picking things up and placing them. Also, you can move things vertically and horizontally with walking around, which comes really handy, and a lot of people don't even realize you can do it. Really allows you to do so much more, and without mods...

I enjoyed your video. I don't know when the game technically ends but I have found my son and have a decision to make. I didn't join the BOS and just stayed with the minutemen, and building up the settlements with just what the game has to offer with no DLC'S. I have a question what would be better at this point for me download the DLC'S and continue the game? I will most likely do another playthrough once I have finished. I have completed all the quests I came across as well. What do you think?
@cryingcube2
Ай бұрын
Thank you! I won't spoil anything for you but the good news is that you can keep playing this game long after it technically ends (even if you never install the DLCs)! It is also fun to re-play the game and join a different faction on the next playthrough. None of the DLCs interfere or change the main storyline or will interfere with the decision that you need to make - so you really could install them anytime. All of them add building items to your workshop but you generally have to complete the questline to unlock them. Three of the DSCs also unlock new settlements (6 in total). You also can play the DLCs and then come back to the main storyline if you want (my no mods character has played all of the DLCs but hasn't found her son yet). If you already own the DLCs , Wasteland Workshop and Contraptions Workshop add a lot of workshop items to your building menus. So if you like to build, these two could be added right away to allow you to use the items in your builds (no unlocks needed). Far Harbor is my favorite and has a great questline. If you take Nick Valentine as a companion for this questline, there are unique story related dialog options. The Far Harbor storyline is quite long and complex (and you have lots of choices to make too). It also unlocks 4 really nice settlements and new workshop items like the barn tile set (that I like to use 😊). I think that Far Harbor triggers fairly early in the game so you could play that anytime. Automatron triggers at level 15. It unlocks the ability to make robots in the game. It also unlocks 1 new settlement. You also get a new companion robot. The questline story is pretty interesting too. Vault-Tech Workshop has a quest associated with it and provides workshop items that can be used to build a vault as well as other items that can be used to decorate in settlements. It also gives you items that you can assign to settlers that can increase your settlement's happiness (depending on the choices that you make doing the questline). I don't remember this questline being difficult - it just forces you to make decisions that cannot be changed later. This DLC will trigger at level 20. Nuka World is a totally different concept from the rest of the game and allows you (if you choose) to partner with the Raiders. Nuka World triggers at level 30 and it can be rather difficult (some suggest waiting until you are level 50 to start it). It unlocks 1 settlement and a lot of theme park and arcade building items. There are also a big lot of decisions that you need to make in this DLC.
