You don't have to apologise for anything. Take all the time you need. The internet isn't going anywhere! Whenever you do pop up to post reviews it will just be a very welcome treat as your takes always genuinely resonate - because they're so down to earth and well reasoned. Sorry you've been having a rough time.

Glad to have you back. I agree with you on Fallout. Even though it took liberties at times, it very much felt like I was in the world of Fallout. And the people behind the camera were very much fans of the story and wanted to do it justice.

Erik, you re spot on with your comments. I love this series and the players in it. Great movement between serious and comedy. I particularly was drawn to the nostalgia in the sound tracks, from Cole Porter to Bob Crosby, late 1950s as was the set design. (yes, I'm a baby boomer). The interplay between abusive capitalism and the Red scare of that era is introspective. Set design is immaculate of LA around North Hollywood and Ventura-land and the climax at Griffith Observatory is priceless. I have never played the game, but can't stop binge watching this series. Hang in there brother, stay sober and except my prayers.

It's an adaptation of a role-playing game. The heroine shouldn't be starting at level 50. I mean, her SPECIAL stats maybe don't change, but she needs to gain experience and level up throughout the -game- *story*. I completely agree with your assessment. (I've always wanted to have Tamora Pierce's "Lady Knight" series as a series for just this reason.)

It's been a few weeks, glad to see Erik upload a new review! I really enjoyed the show, but I still think there is plenty room for improvement for season 2. Lucy is a breath of fresh air compared to many modern day female protagonists, although she did seem a little inconsistent at times going from helpless to badass one moment, or trusting to untrusting back to trusting in a matter of minutes. Overall a great show though. Regardless, I'm glad to see the review!

Hey brother hang in there. Im 52 years old and have struggled with alcohol and depression ( bipolar type 2) for years. Best advice I can give you is you gotta get rid of the alcohol before you can treat the depression. That instant relief from alcohol will end up causing you to chasing your own tail. Also exercise is huge. Even if you start with 5 minutes a day. This finally worked for me following years of ignoring this advice from every Dr. I don’t always agree with your reviews , but have watched about every one. Because I respect them. 3rd bit of advice and probably the most important. Don’t be afraid to ask for help !
@ErikKain

Thank you. Yeah I'm 99% sure I have bipolar 2. And alcohol absolutely leads me to chasing my tail, and then straight into the ER. Exercise is the only way I keep sane and sober. Hard exercise every day until I'm too tired to want to drink and get that good natural high anyways. Really appreciate it!

Wonder if the complete lack of resemblance between Lucy and her bro is just a standard "suspension of disbelief" trope of acting or is meant to have a deeper meaning. Nothing about their appearance or personality seem to indicate like DNA. And yes, I realize I am an analytical person. :)

I loved it. I had some issues with how the Brotherhood of Steel is presented in the series, but it didn't ruin the series for me. There were so many cool easter eggs, even with Lucy only ever travelling with one companion at a time, because she represents the player character. She even has the starting pistol, and there are random bobble head collectibles everywhere. LOL 100% agree that TLoU was a great adaptation, but Fallout is definitely better.

I really enjoy your content! Disagree regarding the Fallout show. I thought there were good parts, mostly Goggins. IMHO, he saves the show. Overall, I thought that there was an artlessness to the cinematography. It felt cheap to me. Disliked the directing. The pacing was off. The characters didn't have a sense of connecting to either their environment or each other. The tone left me cold. Was it supposed to be funny or serious? It didn't seem to do either particularly well. I felt like I was watching a show whose primary goal was to check boxes.

Indeed, it's a good show and an excellent IP adaptation. It has done that very tricky feat of bringing in the "casual" audience as well as the vast majority of Fallout fans (similar to what Arcane did). We do have the Bethesda haters that will not be happy with ANYTHING Bethesda is involved with but they're pretty much irrelevant at this point given the shows success. An 8/10 show for me.

Whoa, been a while! Looking forward to watching your review. SPOILERS: I thought the show was a bit of a mixed bag. I liked Lucy and the ghoul a lot, though I found her characterization somewhat muddled throughout (going from trusting to untrusting to trusting again). Also thought the twist with Muldaver at the end was a tad predictable. Plus there was a bit too much subversion for the sake of subversion eg: Lucy shooting her mom at the end instead of the ghoul seemed unnecessary and callous. Just have her mercy kill her mom normally instead of trying to trick the audience into thinking she’ll try killing off (a virtually invincible) main character.

I'm not incredibly familiar with the lore so I went in with no bias but I just found the show to be bad. The dialogue and humor didn't work for me and the writing was terrible. So none of the vault 33 dwellers used there pip-boys to check if the vault 32 dwellers (raiders in disguise) had radiation? How come a turret can't hit a 50+ year old man and a dog despite the fact there running pretty slow and it fires like 300+ rounds at them? Why does The Ghoul know about a weak spot in the power armor that he can kill the user by shooting them in the chest with one shot yet doesn't do that against Maximus in Episode 2? Why is Maximus always getting promoted by the Brotherhood despite the fact he's incompetent and constantly causes harm to his fellow comrades? Why would the robot re-attach Lucy's finger when he was gonna harvest her organs. She'd be dead anyway? Why wouldn't Muldaver take Lucy and Norm as hostages to make Hank give up the codes? Why would capitalists bomb the planet? How do you make money when everyone is dead and society is in ruins? How is Maximus not dead? Hank punches him in the head using the power armor. His brain should be mush! There's more I could list but we'd be here forever. The thing is I didn't even notice all these until I saw some analysis videos. Beneath the slick visuals, solid production value, entertaining hyper violence and good performances from Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins the foundation of this show is severely flawed. There's so many plot holes and leaps in logic. I can understand why people found it fun and enjoyable but for me personally I couldn't excuse a lot of the writing.

Even outside of the IP this is meant to be adding to the continuity of, this show is a lazily written mess. Starting from episode 1 when everyone in the wedding had radiation detectors on their wrists, but only Lucy's one detected radiation on her Groom AFTER coitus and then it just goes downhill from there. So many story events only happen because huge contrivances, plot armour and idiot balls get thrown from character to character that it can only be enjoyed if you aren't thinking at all. Its a much better adaption of Borderlands than Fallout. Fallout is so named not just because of radiation, but in terms of consequences of actions. In the show there is no continuity between the actions of characters and their consequences. Plus a council of big evil arch-capitalists decide to destroy the world, because destroying the world is profitable. What. But don't worry guys, there's no messaging or overt agenda to how this show is written. I'm glad you got a lot out of it, especially if you watched it when you were in a time where you needed something to cheer you up. I just don't like the idea that this is the level of programming we settle for, because we all deserve better.

>In the show there is no continuity between the actions of characters and their consequences. What a dumb misreading. >Plus a council of big evil arch-capitalists decide to destroy the world, because destroying the world is profitable Thats always been a thing in Fallout, the show itself still doesnt specify who did actually drop the bombs. >because we all deserve better. Not you. Dumbass probably thinks Avellone is a talented writer.

I always preferred the original Fallout and Fallout 2 games (despite the bugs, but those became a feature in later versions!), but have played them all. I love the fan service of the show, and it even has an intriguing story, although I found the pacing to be off at times, something I’ve noticed in many streaming shows. Also, the world seemed greener (in some places) than I thought it should have been, but I did enjoy the show. And to finish I’m glad to see you posting again.

Besides the inconsistencies in plot and character, I just can't forgive them for trashing the storytelling of 1, 2 and New Vegas and turning it into more Bethesda silliness. Probably is the best video game adaptation ever made, but that's a pretty low bar.

I loved the Fallout show. Walton Goggins was perfect as the Ghoul and loved the character Lucy. Despite the whining from some of the more hardcore lore focused Fallout fans, i think the show is very respectful to the games. It certainly doesn't negatively impact the games. In fact, i'm most impressed by how many new people have gone to Fallout 4 (as well as New Vegas and 76) because they wanted to explore more of that setting. Looking forward to season 2.

To clarify: Anyone who says the show retcons New Vegas is either lying or doesn’t know how to read. Jonathan Nolan and Todd Howard have both confirmed that New Vegas is canon AND (spoilers incoming): The chalkboard shows that the Fall of Shady sands BEGAN in 2277 (Rome didn’t fall in a day) and Hank ordered the city Nuked AFTERWARDS. Plus Season 1’s ending literally sets up the fact that Season 2 hinges on New Vegas being canon (most likely the Mr House ending as well as the Lonesome Road DLC).

Plus if we take into account that Lucy and Maximus are around the same age and supposed to be in their early 20s, plus with the show taking place in 2296 (roughly 10 years after Fallout 4) this means Shady Sands was most likely nuked sometime between 2282 and 2283 which is AFTER New Vegas takes place in 2281 (which would correspond with the events of the Lonesome Road DLC).

This show is dumb. It feels like the director was trying so hard to make a Quinton Terentino film. The show doesn't feel like the game. I can get sucked into the game for hours I couldn't even get past one episode before I was looking to see how much longer it was. I haven't been able to make it past the second episode. At least the witcher got me through 3 episodes before I knew it was to dumb to watch.
