I have wasteland warfare the skirmish game. I get the idea this is really just an add on for that. I really wish they had just made a strait up rpg, instead of just an add on.

As an expansion for Wasteland Warfare it's pretty darn good, but they claim on the cover and in the advertising that it's stand alone. And while that's not a lie, it is quite misleading.

As already stated, the book is more of an 'enhancement' of the Skirmish game, rather than a true standalone RPG - whereas, for example, titles like the "Mech Warror / A Time of War" RPGs detail the Battletech Universe well enough that you can run a game without having to pull out a Battletech Map and miniatures or have read any of the novels for context, FO:WW RPG is **very** sparse on Setting Details/Background - to an extent, I believe this is due to the designer's assumption that those people who are likely to play the Skirmish game (and who pick up this RPG Addendum ) are already familiar with the game/lore of the CRPGs, so repeating that info would largely be superflueous, especially on a game less focused on "Vault Crawls" and "World Building" than on "set-piece" battles in Super Mutant camps and Raider Settlements... in some respects, it resembles Games Workshop's "Inquisitor" Skirmish game (vs the depth of Lore and Character Complexity of the WH40K and the 'Dark Heresy' family of games), in that Inquisitor was also a quasi-RPG that was light on setting, and that could have be so much better if the RPG elements were fleshed out more. Tbh, I was hoping this book would be to the Skirmish game what "Warhammer Quest" was to WHFB (ie a lighter, less rules complex 'Dungeon Crawler' friendly game, when you're not in the mood for WHFRP's d% crunchiness); alas, it doesn't even have a means of randomly generating Vault plans/layouts, so it really seems that a opportunity was missed there. The fact that it only details the history (in scant detail) of Fallout's 1,2, 3 & 4 - and conspicuously omits all mention of New Vegas - also seems a bit of a strange design choice (though I wonder if that, in hindsight, might have been due to the behind-the-scenes purchase of Obsidian by Microsoft in some way... 🤔). That being said, Modiphius is taking another crack at a *true* RPG rendition for Fallout - I've not seen in person yet, but they have (or are about to) release another Fallout RPG, but this one will be based on Modiphius' "2d20" engine (the same system that is behind their "Conan" and "Star Trek Adventures" RPGs), so hope for a real, fully fleshed-out Fallout tabletop RPG experience that doesn't require miniatures or proprietary dice still lives on, I suppose 👍

I totally get what you mean, but sadly the cover and advertising states that it is "standalone game", which while it's a decent expansion of the skirmish game, it really isn't a great standalone game.

Nice vid. I was curious on the game, since the setting is quite intresting and humorous at time as well. I got to admit the special dice only game is a heavy strike to me. The fact that is seemingly more a second thought, or as you said, made ofr those who already know the setting, and it would just be a quick reminder of what's what. The lack of art is also sad to see, the book does look nice but rather dull. Also...you got TWO chainsaw Warrior boxes? Very nice, I got one year ago on ebay, the cardboard is a bit curvy, but a great solo game

I'm really disappointed with it, as if they'd just claimed it was an add on for the skirmish game, I'd have been totally okay with what they'd done, but they do claim that it's "standalone", which I kind of suppose it is, but barely. The story about my two copies of Chainsaw Warrior. I'd borrowed and played it to death back in the day, but that friend had moved abroad, so in the mid 2000's I saw a copy on ebay and purchased it for quite a lot of money. While it was still in the post, I walked into a local charity shop with my Wife and spotted a copy for sale for only £2. So grabbed it straight away, turns out that not only was it as complete as the other one I'd bought, but it came with all the cards they'd printed in White Dwarf to expand it too, so was actually the better version.

This is skirmish game expansion, yes, but Modiphius has a Fallout RPG system too. Completely different set of books ;)

Yep, the RPG was released a matter of weeks/months after I did this review. But they've no excuse for it not being an RPG, when it is called the Wasteland Warfare Roleplaying Game, they totally have to own it being compared to RPG's. :D

Turns out I may have been wrong, as although it hasn't won either of the Poll's it's been in, it's survived and is doing pretty well this week having been ahead already (but now knocked into second).

@@chainsawsubtlety9828 That's a rather dark perception of humanity, I'm far more of an optimist. But even if that is what you believe, then surely they're the last people you'd want armed and dangerous, far better to keep the weapons out of the hands of those who are inherently evil.

@@RPGGamer You say "dark", I say "realistic." Since I believe (correctly) that nearly all Humans are evil, disarming them is both pointless and impossible. I also believe that to be truly Human, one must be truly free. Free to make one's own choices and mistakes. Taking that from someone robs them of what it means to be free. Nor do "we" have the right to try. We cannot make the world "safe". It is impossible. In the pointless quest for safety, I/we/they have NO RIGHT to even attempt to take, from anyone, the most basic right of any living being...the right to self-defense. But, bear in mind, I am American. I do not live in a large, urban area. I do not want the government in my business. I do not need the government to protect me, not that they could. I do not believe that the rest of the herd should be able to dictate how I live my life, simply so that they can sleep more easily. I am used to arguing in defense of my rights, on the interwebs, every day. I get a little touchy about it. TLDR: Guns, good. Self-determination, good. People, bad. Fire, bad.

@@chainsawsubtlety9828 Disarming humans is impossible, except in all the countries where it has been done and worked. I totally understand why you think the way you do, since research has shown that people who own guns become more scared than those without.
