When someone describes an adult as “obedient”, it is disturbing on so many levels! That should never be a compliment.

I am an indian male who was in a very similar position to him. I didn't make up lies, but I remember going on a family vacation because I got into a bad college and was getting low grades. The entire time I was coming up with ways to kill myself. I ended up attempting to kill myself the next year. Definitely had that feeling of euphoria the day I decided to do it. I was really calm and happy. My parents also claimed to be very progresive parents who claim they didn't put pressure on me. (and they 100% were a lot better than other brown parents) but still put a lot of pressure. And I felt really bad throughout my life becuase I wasn't successfully socially or aademically as I felt they wanted. (and I wanted). Also like him, no one in my life ever thought I was depressed. Including my mom who described me as a "happy child". On paper, I had a lot of friends, was smart, was dating girls and was good looking. But for years I had been thinking of killing myself and feeling like I wasn't living up to my expectations. I think indian kids keep a lot of secrets from their parents about who they are and how they're feeling. And I wasn't "depressed". I was under tremendous amounts of pressure that my parents, society and mostly I put on myself. And was failing to meet them again and again leading to self hate and resentment. I don't know the word for it. But I feel Tej was in the same situation. Also about him telling his doubts to his mom, I think that was him trying to guage if he could tell her "Mom I'm going to drop out of school" to hide the fact that he wasn't going to classes for so long. So basically testing if he could get out of the lie. I think her answer likely led him to take his life. I remember doing a similar thing where I asked someone a last question hoping I would get an answer I didn't, and then committing to deciding to kill myself. I relate to this story way too much lol. But I'm in a much better place now. I am a lot happier, worked on my self worth, achieving my goals and worked to stop having suicidal thoughts :). Suicidal ideation is a really nuanced topic I could talk a lot about. It is constantly misreported and misunderstood inspite of our focus on "mental health".

It was his dad’s birthday, and his brother was going away to Europe (probably for an internship or work). Tej had been lying to his family for 2 entire years and felt like his life was a failure. Even if his parents are chill, this would’ve upset them and caused them a tremendous amount of pain. I firmly believe Tej committed suicide that day, and that his car hasn’t been found because he may have willingly driven into a body of water. Sad story!

8 years is a long time for his car to never have been found. I detect foul play. He was in bad company. Maybe his friends were bad company and no one knows. They killed him because he owed them money or crossed them in some way. The car must have been destroyed somewhere.

I was also thinking the same but one point makes wonder if this might not be the case and it is the fact that he mentioned to his parents before leaving to not start the party before he comes back. Now why would someone who has made up their mind to end their life say that.

As a Maharashtrian living in Australia, I can relate to this family. I am all by myself here and my parents are in India. I can confirm that mental health issues are serious in this country. Every second person suffers from ADHD. If he managed to drive deep deep deep inside the Australian outback and hide his car it's difficult to even find his car intact. Maybe he hid his car before ending his life. There are so many abandoned cars in the outback. This country is as big as the USA with nothing in the center. Yes, Australia is absolutely beautiful and I call this my home now but at the same time it can be deadly under such circumstances.

Hey Aaryan and Ashwariya, I am Miloni Mehta and I have been following your podcast from the beginning. Today, looking at his case, I feel like we have been through the same experiences. I am currently pursuing my MSc in Digital Marketing and AI in Paris. I have faced multiple failures in my life, despite having the most supportive parents and surroundings. I understand the anxiety of quitting a career path, as it can be incredibly challenging. I have a small message for Tej. Hey Tej, You might not know me, and we don't know where you are or how you are doing. I hope you are safe and healthy. We have all experienced failure and anxiety, and I don't want you to be reminded of it again. However, your family misses you a lot, and it's time for you to return to them. I know they will accept you with open arms and a lot of love. They miss you a lot, so please go back to them. From, Miloni

2:50 Unless you want your murder case discussed in a future episode, Aaryan, don't even think about kidnapping me. Regarding this case, I have a theory.Tej fell in with a bad crowd, drugs, shop lifting, that sort of thing. Those who he hung around with thought that he would get them into trouble, or was an hinderance and got rid of him. Somewhat similar to the Reena Virk case, only difference been that body hasn't been found. The car might have been scarped or dismantled and sold part by part.

This was extremely hard to watch..I cannot imagine how his family is living each day not knowing what has happened to him. As heartbreaking as his death would be, not having closure ,not knowing ,is so much worse. Maybe it gives them hope that he is fine out there somewhere but that is an overly optimistic thought. Practically if he hasnt showed up till now , he is probably no longer alive. He wanted to go away far and end it all. Absolutely devastating. Desi crime team thank you for doing your part though.

How can parents celebrate such a day when child is missing? Probably his dad was hard on Tej or had a fight that day. Tej wanted to disappear on his Dad's birthday, maybe he thought his dad would be happy if he vanishes. Tej wanted to punish his dad or make him happy by going away on his birthday.

I actually fear him being alive all these years- probably kidnapped/ trapped by some psychopath older male or female. Trapped under some basement or inside a house, not even aware if it is day or night or how many yrs have been passed. Because there is no way someone is alive without being spotted or without accessing bank/ atm after soo long. And if he was dead, his car ot body must have been spotted by someone somewhere. The only possible explanation is can see for his not being found already is because someone intentionally is keeping him away. Probably that unfortunate boy isn’t even aware how much his family is searching for him/ or probably he can see it on tv but not able to free himself.
