That's beautiful. Blue Jays are more confident and trusting than some other birds. My daughter and I saved 2 baby blue jays a few years ago and one had a very distinct call. We nurtured them til they could fly. They came back to see us all the time until we moved. It was very rewarding. Glad they helped this little guy! Great work!

I saved a baby Bluejay that fell out of a nest that was raided by a hawk about three years ago. The family of birds knew I had it and we’re hanging out in the trees above the cage I had him. They would come down and feed him through the cage. They waited around for about a week as it got bigger and stronger. When it could fly a little bit I let it go and they came and got them it and flew off with it. Super cool experience seeing animals that really care about their kids

I currently have a fledgling dove. Couldn't get her back in the nest. The sibling had already died when I found squeakers. The mom dove was huddling over the dead one the next day. Since it was at a school I couldn't bring the baby back and sit. She is almost ready to go when it warms up at night in 3 days. For now I'm teaching her seed pecking.

I did this with a baby crow a few years ago. I did learn a few lessons, like using chop sticks (plastic ones) as a stand-in for moms beak and he took to it right away. At one point there were about a dozen crows flying around the house squawking, so I made sure to bring him outside for feedings and it seemed to calm them down.

How did he do with the other Blue Jays in the area? I worry when my little baby blue flies off he will be alone. I rescued him from a horrid crow attack. He was injured and I was not sure he would make it, but he did and is doing great. Not flying yet but practicing and getting lots of nutrients and love. I feed the birds around here and have Blue Jays all the time. I am hoping they will accept him.

Absolutely awesome. I befriended an adult Blue Jay in California. I named "her" Big Bird and she would come from the next door avocado field whenever I called her name. My mom has it on video. Of course, food was the motivator. First it was peanuts and then I bought meal worms for her, she loved those. She would land on my hand while I fed her. Could occasionally pet her but after awhile, she would peck my hand to tell me that our relationship had boundaries!! I'm assuming Big Bird was a mom because she brought a younger "friend" along a year or so later. Wish I could have told her where I was going when I moved.

Jays sometimes boot babies from the nest before they're flight ready. The jay family will then take turns babysitting and teaching the fledgling to hunt bugs and hide until it can fly and fend for itself. I doubt you "rescued" it, and you definitely interfered with the natural process. But yaay cute bird.

Try raising a dove. Lol. They don't gape like that. They use their beak like a straw to eat crop milk. So you have to use bird formula. My dove is about 3 weeks old. It's getting cold the next few nights like close to freezing so I'm keeping her in and letting her learn to fly a couple more nights. Then I will get a roost box for her
