Arthur, you just ventured into my neck of the woods! I have many family members buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland. I have also been to Elizabeth Short's grave which is there. In fact, the last time we were there, we heard some really strange noises. How I wished you had gone right next door to the Chapel of the Chimes! That's where my own future final resting place is. My parents are there. It's a beautiful, Gothic looking columbarium that was designed by Julia Morgan whose best work was Hearst Castle. Also, My great-grandmother was one of those graves evicted out of San Francisco and moved to Olivet Cemetery. I really enjoyed this video!

He donated the money to build the current Children’s Hospital at Stanford building in memory of his wife, Lucille Salter Packard. Within this hospital, the Doobie Brothers donated a theater for the entertainment of the sick children, and they would occasionally give performances to the children in that theater. Please continue making these videos! I look forward to them. They are a wonderful tribute to the people who have given us so much. They shouldn’t be forgotten. Thanks.

I visit my parents' grave often and am familiar with the Oak Grove section, but , I never found fresh burials. If Emperor Norton ran for President today on the Dissolve (or at least Streamline) Congress platform, I'd vote for him in a heartbeat. 😀

This isn't Hollywood, so maybe it doesn't fit here. But not all of the graves here were famous because of the entertainment business. You were very close to a infamous grave site. In The Evergreen Cemetery in Oakland is the grave with the remains of 412 people that were unclaimed from Jonestown, from the People's Temple. I am so sorry. May these people rest in peace.

I didn’t realize that there were “unclaimed” remains from Jonestown. Certainly, not that many people. They couldn’t be identified at all? I thought they were poisoned. Which probably shouldn’t have made identification difficult

@@britishtvlover2038 They were unclaimed mostly because of cost. There was one local man who became famous for a very sad reason. All of his immediate family went to Jonestown. He lost 21 family members. He could not afford to have 21 funerals, buy 21 grave plots. They were unclaimed. This was the case of most unclaimed. Multiple family members. Survivors could not afford to bury all of them.

Thanks for mentioning the souls from Jonestown. The cemetery is quite strange in that it's in the middle of an urban location, and the streets seem to go thru the middle of it. I grew up off Golf Links Rd and used to shop at Eastmont Mall which is very near to the cemetery. P.S.: It's also surprising he did not go to Chapel of the Chimes which is one of the most beautiful mausoleums in the world.

I know it’s macabre but to admire I think the most part of this video is the architecture of many of these mausoleums in itself it’s so beautiful yet in such a setting where it’s the eternal resting it’s hard not to not want to say that the architecture of these buildings in itself is as beautiful as the resting place but it is

I don't think it's macabre, Nadir. You have an appreciation for the beauty of the architecture of the mausoleums. That's why families spend the time and money having them designed and put in place, to be admired and to honor their loved ones.

So many big ones in this video! You were busy in several cemeteries. Love the snacking at the end! Shirley Temple was nice to see. Of course since I'm into the Old West it was great seeing Wyatt! Thanks for taking on this extended tour!

I live in Palo Alto and there is something I’d like to say for Cypress Lawn Cemetery in Colma. They go above and beyond not just for their clients but for the surrounding community at large. My mother passed away just shy of 90 in October of 2019 and I was feeling pretty down. Free of charge, and open to everyone, Cypress Lawn hosted a support group for bereaved family members and friends. It was late fall so sunset was at about 5 pm and the group met on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7:30 pm. I can tell you that it felt pretty weird driving to a huge fancy old cemetery in the dark. But the group leader, a guy named Jeff was very friendly and helpful. Jeff had a master’s degree in psychology and counseling and his day job was, you guessed it, funeral director. Most evening there were only about four or five of us in the group and although it was somewhat creepy being there after dark it did me good. Shortly before Halloween that year free of charge and open to everyone Cypress Lawn hosted an outdoor 7:00 pm showing of the of the Disney Pixar movie Coco. They supplied lemonade and popcorn and the guests were advised to bring blankets and lawn chairs. The movie was shown in the cemetery. That seemed a little too strange for my taste so I didn’t attend. Who goes to movie night in a graveyard?

This definitely makes this freezing Monday, without electricity, and in a cold 40 degree house in Houston, much much better.

If you use a brick base and make a small 'chimmey' of bricks with an opening at the bottom, like a small chimmey and put a thick candle in it it will produce a nice way of giving you heat. Just be carefull. A little Army trick we used to keep warm. 👍👻

OUTSTANDING As Always! Respectfully done and packed with lots of background information as usual! Shirley Temple: I can still remember in the 1970s on Saturday or Sunday afternoon on WGN9 watching one of her many films with her talented costars like Arthur Treacher, Bill Robinson and Buddy “Barnaby Jones” Ebsen! This girl singlehandedly saved 20th Century Fox from financial ruin during the depression. Do you think they gave her free admission to any Fox film afterwards? Steve Jobs: Yep; watched the whole 42:21 of this episode on a Apple device! Joe DiMaggio: Not sure if their was anyone else as angry with Frank Sinatra and the Kennedys than Joe! Will we ever know what really happened to her? Abigail Folger: Remember as a child this creepy news coming out of Southern California about Sharon Tate and her friends being butchered! Not something a preteen mind can process at the time Joe Carcione: During am or noon newscasts, the local NBC Affiliate would air his “Green Grocer” segments. One day they announced there would be no more airings because he died! Ms. Weather Girl: It’s Raining Men was THE tune in the early 80s! The Black Dalia: Sad sad just sooooooo sad! What else can you say? Eating some Ghirardelli Chocolate at the Ghirardelli Mausoleum. Can’t beat that!

For anyone who is a cemetery enthusiast a trip to Colma is an absolute must. There are 17 including one for pets. On a side note; the backstory to the eviction of San Francisco's dead is actually quite scandalous. It was originally sold as a public health measure but it had far more to do with the quiet lobbying by real estate interests desperate to get their hands on the valuable land occupied by SF's many cemeteries.

Just fantastic. Thank you so much. My mother Selma Curiel is buried in Eternal Home, just a bit north of Hills of Eternity. You absolutely captured the lives and dignities of these people, many whom I know and some whom I do now. You have a beautiful capacity to both revere and inhabit the lives of your subjects. Thank you.
