Hey everyone, I am excited to bring the first of several Cable Sleeving tutorial videos that I have to you today! I started to search around the interwebs looking for a decent guide to start sleeving, and while there are resources, I couldn't quite find what I wanted. To make the process easier I wanted a more visual form like pictures and video, not some forum posts or a text block. So after learning the process myself, I decided to make the guide that I thought would have helped me when I first started.
Now you should note that although the title says "For Noobs", it could also help someone else iron out their process or find better tools/methods to get the job done. Also, while I like the way I did things, there are other methods not used and I am totally open to comments and suggestions I you guys find a better solution or tool to getting things done in a quicker or easier way.
I am in no way a pro at this, but the more I do it the faster and more routine the process gets. I hope you guys enjoy the video and find it helpful. Use the quick links I provided to go to moments in the video if you need to skip to a certain section or go back and look at a connector. I will also provide the materials list now:
Materials:
- Scissors or some other cutting tool for clean cuts
- Tweezers or some small metal object for poking pins (paperclip)
- Heat source for heat shrink; I used a lighter
- Optional but recommended is the 4-tool kit I mention in the video (you can use other small things to push down pins but these are nice)
- Measuring device like a ruler or measuring tape
- Tape for marking wires and smoothing pins (electrical works best)
- 5mm 2/1 ratio heat shrink, for other parts of the computer you will want other sizes
- Paracord in whatever color or pattern your heart desires and can find.
- Something to write with and something to write on for sketching your wire diagram.
