Underrated comedy from the pen of John Hughes. No one knew how to use John Candy better than Hughes. He knew how to strike the perfect balance between heartfelt sincerity and lovable goofiness. Hughes didn't just know how to write teen characters, he was fantastic at capturing adults too.

In case anyone wants some copypasta: I tell you what I see when I look out there. I see the undeveloped resources of Northern Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. I see a syndicated development consortium exploiting over a billion and a half dollars in forest products. I see a paper mill and if the strategic metals are there, a mining operation. A greenbelt between the condos on the lake and a waste management facility focusing on the newest rage in toxic waste, medical refuse. Infected bandages, body parts, IV tubing, contaminated glassware, entrails, syringes, fluids, blood, low grade radioactive waste all safely contained sunken in the lake and sealed for centuries. Now I ask you what do you see?

More and more I tend to leave new cinema and turn back to 80s and early 90s movies. There is something calm and soothing about them. Uncle Buck is an excellent example of a light comedy movie that warmth you up. I can't remember a movie made by 2000 that would have the same effect on me.

I get anxiety watching todays "comedy" movies. Hollywood believes movies have to be vulgar to be funny. There is very few family friendly movies anymore. Ill stick with 80s and 90s when it comes to watching a wholesome comedy. Hollywood likes to insult its viewers intelligents.

@@jeremyhendricks5734 Clove, but I get what you meant. Clove cigs (brown ones w/ distinctive smell) are banned in the US (flavored cig ban), and I dunno when they were, but I can even remember the last time I ever smelled someone smoking one in public. It was in May of 94 at Magic Mountain in Calif (The Wally World one) on our "Senior ditch day" and my friends and I were in line to ride the then-Batman ride. Someone ahead of us was smoking it. I hadn't smelled that distinctive smell for years before that and never since. They actually smelled nice, like flavored pipe tobacco. Now peeps have to smuggle foreign ones in to have them at all, but they're an obscure thing that any American under 45 years of age at bare minimum prob isn't even aware of. And when they were around, they weren't terribly common. Teens liked them, but it's not like they were ever as popular as menthols.
