This 2023 running back class (Bijan, Gibbs, Achane) are the archetype for a new type of running back. Dudes that can house it at any time from midfield. All of them have bruisers on their teams, but man are they scary if your defense is playing against any of these three.

Great analysis as always. Do you have any process to turn position ranks into overall draft ranks?
@JoshandHayden
2 ай бұрын
Few things go into it: 1) How big is the drop off in projection/upside within the position? If Breece is way better than RB5 overall, then he should get pushed up a lot higher. 2) I use "fantasy points over replacement" from the previous years as a baseline for how scoring typically looks. That metric takes the points scored over the QB12, TE12, WR40, RB30. I have an explanation on it here: underdognetwork.com/football/analysis/2023-fantasy-football-recap-awards-and-data... 3) Average Draft Position on Underdog is fairly good, so I don't want to go completely rogue from it either.

@bigalmichel

Hi Hayden! Amazing analysis! I have two questions for you: 1) How do these projections differ from your rankings? I see some differences. For example, DeShaun Watson in this video is 16th in HPPR points overall, 14th in points per game, whereas in the rankings article you just released, he's 17th. Do you rank people differently than just their simple projections, to capture upside or risk or other factors? 2) For QB specifically, if I'm going to carry a backup QB in a 1 QB league, I assume I should care more about points per game than overall seasonal points, because I can cover for them in the games they may be out? A standout example from your spreadsheet is Jayden Daniels, who you project to play only 14.5 games (fewer than most QBs), creating a gap between his overall rank (19) and his point per game rank (14). If I have a backup for him, can I think of him as the 14th best projection, then? Thank you!
@JoshandHayden
2 ай бұрын
1) they will be close to my rankings, but the players who have very high contingent upside will be ranked higher than my projections. For example, I want as much Corum and Allgeier as possible. Their projections wouldn’t share that story. 2) You want to use PG most of the time because the games a player misses will be filled by someone else, not scores as a 0 in your lineup. The total points column would suggest that you would get a 0 for games missed.

You're off on LV and Zamir. Zamir is one of the better pass blockers (for RB) in the league. Better than Mattison. The things people are saying about Zamir are often just not true. He will be in on 3rd downs because of his pass blocking, which means he will exceed these projected targets in the receiving game. People also say 'Zamir is slow'. Really? Ran a 4.40 40. For perspective CMC ran a 4.48 40 (Zamir also outdid CMCs cone drill). Breece Hall 4.39. Zamir White will be top 10 in RB touches this year, easily. So odd that a guy like Mixon is going 2 or 3 rounds before Zamir, and how many people think Zamir is a different back than he actually is.
