Eastbound to "real Oregon" (aka Boring) for some automobile picking and pulling with our new pals from BC, Weed. I've been instructed to "stay in the van until Chris makes sure everything is OK." The owner of Classic U Pull It U Save, Dave, said we could shoot, but he didn't want to talk about it. His only condition: $2 a head, and we sign a release. None of us read it, and all sign. After being warned several times to "watch out for thieves," we start piling gear in the blackened mud.
Shooting here in the junkyard, you get a lawless feeling; conventions turning gray. We managed to keep the drums from sinking into the doom by bracing them with scavenged wreckage, and Weed is pocket-knifing guitar straps from seatbelts. Cameras are lurking in gutted cars, and the band is comfortable here--they let loose and the sounds are unreal. It's fucking loud.
Between demolitions, Dave rolls through in his oversized forklift, grinning jankily and shouting incoherently at us; in a way, mirroring Weed's glorious cremation of aesthetics. I like to think he was threatening to kill us, and we had no idea.
