My campbell is 3 years behind yours so great to see what's to come. Your early videos swing me towards it so a big thank you for that

Good information! Especially the part about planting mature plants. I planted 6 Fargesia Scabrida in gallon pots 2.5 years ago. They're happy and growing well, but still very thin and only 4-5 ft tall at best. Guess I'll keep being patient!

Yeah unfortunately since they only really do the one big growth spurt in spring it takes time.

it's good that it stay straight up. I have rufa and they just keep falling.

I found that as well. If you trim the canes in the front about halfway they bamboo will stand up again.

Nice attractive wall of foliage. Bamboo is pretty awesome for a host of reasons.

Iv just purchased this bamboo heard good things about this type. Do you think it will be safe to grow in a raised sleeper bed ontop of soil or would the roots go down too much? Thank you 😊
@texastropics

They roots don't go down very far in my soil, but it is clay. These bamboo are relatively easy to control unlike the runners.

Where did you find the bamboo separated from a big clump? Do you have recommendations on where to purchase bamboo?
@texastropics
Жыл бұрын
I bought my bamboo privately. There aren't very many places that specialize, you usually find the same 4 or 5 types at regular nurseries. I did take a tour of this place www.bamboogarden.com/ It's a huge place and they do ship. They must have one of the largest collections of bamboo in North America. Healthy looking plants as well.

How do you avoid the bamboo going under the fence into the neighbors yard?
@texastropics
Жыл бұрын
It's not something I have to worry about. The other side of the fence is the sidewalk, and along the back fence there is a retaining wall that drops down a few feet. The roots on these are pretty shallow so you could stop them with a barrier.

its a clumping rather than running bamboo. Natural limit to the size of the base...usually.

They look great. I have planted 10 small plants and will be building an extension to that hedge with another 9 in a couple of months. I also have Fargesia "Black Pearl" for a more shady spot in the garden.
