This was 6 years ago and ratings have changed (gone up across the board) would love to see an updated video with more current numbers.

For what it's worth, it's mid 2024 and I'm new to Fargo (600 with about 300 games) and I played for decades under the AZ system. The comparison of the two ratings systems still appears accurate. The number of elite players over 800 worldwide has risen a lot. Is that the ratings going up or more players reaching the same level? It would be interesting to see a chart (bell curve) of all players in the system with mean and standard deviations for each year.

Crazy. My local keeps putting vs Fargo 400-500 players and I'm like a 250 with very few tournament games under my belt. Prior I was a casual bar player that normally would be around a 100 but played well enough to get a higher rating. Most my match wins are vs people that are between 300-400 because no one my Fargo rating exist at my local. I know this because I'm in the Fargo rate app.

Are there any videos that can explain it to a person that is completely ignorant on all rating/point systems? Like, how would it be explained to a person that's been playing for years, but doesn't know anything about points, ratings, skill levels, or playing in leagues? That last measure about percentage of 8 ball wins in one turn at a 7 foot table did help me understand things a bit.

I’m an APA 6 and my cargo is 414. Although I don’t play in Fargo rated tournaments as much

That is about right, for 9 ball where it goes to 9. The APA ratings in the video are off by like 100 points. I see maxed out APA and TAP players be at 550+ Fargo. In 8 ball 414 is a bit low for a 6, but really depends on how accurate your Fargo and APA ratings are.

How many games are needed to establish a players official rating?

A player gets a "starter rating" at first which is just a guess. As game results are added, the effect of the starter rating fades out until it is no longer used after 200 games are in the system. It's arbitrary about how many games (aka robustness) is considered an "established rating". For example one tournament might only allow players with 200 or more games in the system, while another might require 500. So there's no such thing as an "official rating", but the closest thing in having 200 or more robustness.
