Are you noticing different grasses growing at different times throughout the summer? Learn about warm-season and cool-season grasses in this week's Farm Basics. Visit watch.agphd.com for full Ag PhD episodes and more!
My father in-law planted new grass and laid down some very expensive sod the same year I did on the farm. Although we watered about the same, after 3 years mine doesn't require as much water anymore. The difference is cutting height. My Ventrac mower is nearly all the way up. So it is completely even, lush and has stripe. He couldn't resist mowing low the first year...now he is behind a year...maybe two. Unless someone is paying a green fee to golf on your lawn...keep it 6 inches long and the roots will go down making drought symptoms appear later and it will catch more dew.

Great advice. No such thing as a 2 week haircut for your lawn.

@@redclover51 actually I let it grow to seed this summer. Than brought it down slowly till it was at 6 inches. I mow once a week. Still green after the record breaker temps a week ago.
