Hi, just found your channel and like your down to earth and informative style of presentation. I left agricultural engineering 20 years ago when the plough was still just about king. I still watch farming from the 'roadside' with the kit getting larger and more efficient. I have just subscribed and looked at your back catalogue of videos, so have some catching up to do. Best Wishes for the coming year.

Hello Robert, thanks for the message. I think kit is now going the other way due to cost of operating.

I think you are right to make do, keep old machinery working what is probably a good cost saving as long as parts are available.

Great Video Andrew, it was a shame that Simba affectively came to an end for the UK with the sale to Great Plains! Thanks for sharing

Andrew, thanks for the update on your Simba machinery it was extremely interesting and I now understand a bit more about modern agricultural work.

It is a shame that Simba are no longer in business. I visited the works 1983 and I recall that the two brothers who ran the company were no nonsense South Africans.

When Great Plains took over it was only going to go one way. Nobody changes the identity of a company and expect it to keep going. Changing from orange to green was a big mistake.

Nice disc combo greetings from a sugarcane farmer in South Africa 🇿🇦 love your rant about import sugar we got to make our money somewhere
@WardysWaffleAndrewWard

My gripe was not against imports, it was against our government breaking their promise. I don’t begrudge any imports as long as they match our production standards. I welcome your cane sugar as long as you don’t use products we’re banned from using.

Thanks for the update Andrew very informative as usual. Great to see you look after your equipment I've been on hundreds of farms over the years and it always amazed me to see good machines dropped in the long grass still covered in the soil from the last time it was used. Looking forward to more updates in 2022 happy New Year to you and Rhonda and not forgetting Frankie.

great video once again! have you, or have you ever considered running the x- press behind the solo to cut up the clods even more. all the best for 2022

We have used the x-press behind the solo but only a couple of times. I didn’t think it had much advantage over the Cultipress,

@@WardysWaffleAndrewWard ok i can see why. before your current culti press did you run a rigid tine version and if so do you see any advantages of the spring tine? sorry for all the questions- just intrested
@WardysWaffleAndrewWard
2 жыл бұрын
We did run a rigid tine one, up to this autumn, had it 20 years, I swapped for a Claydon straw rake. It was very good but I think took more pulling that the pro active tines. We record fuel used in all machines and have yet to work out the difference between the 2 presses.

All the best for 22 Andrew, family and all on the farm. What's the reason you don't subsoil as deep now? Is it just loosening to the depth that roots would be expected to grow too and no deeper or any other reason?

I think our soil is in such good condition, we don’t see any benefit and the cost is so much more.

Another interesting video Mr Ward, thanks for pointing out the issue around imported cane sugar as most people won't have a clue about this,and this government is committed to environmental issues eh?

Happy new year to you and Frankie & family another brilliant video with an informative look at the Simba tackle you currently run, we have a Great Plains Xpress and it really is well made as reflected in the price 😜 does the auto-lube give much trouble with all the pipes etc? Why do you need a 600hp Quad?
@WardysWaffleAndrewWard
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, seasons greetings back to you. They certainly are well built machines. The auto lube does play up sometimes, usually it’s a blocked pipe or valve block but having Ian helping us with repairs is really handy as he used to be in the Simba R and D team! We don’t really need 600hp now we are moving less soil and working shallower so it’s something we will be looking at this next year.

Used to find with the Mono that what looked level after it would slump in the middle with time leaving the fields un level, does the solo overcome this or is it just set up on the day?
@WardysWaffleAndrewWard
2 жыл бұрын
That can be an issue but with careful setting up instead of just ignoring it, the soil can remain level. High forward speed and changing soil type in the same field are the usual culprits.

Is it hard to get parts for them now tho ?
@WardysWaffleAndrewWard
2 жыл бұрын
Not really, there’s quite a lot of non genuine parts available for most of the Simba range, some of the Freeflow parts maybe getting difficult to source but I buy some at farm sales and have sourced some from Twitter adverts so we are ok at the moment.
