I have 2 of those fertilizer distributors. They belonged to my Granddad. They were John Deere 23C fertilizer distributors. Got them mounted on a Covington 2 row cultivator with 2 John Deere 71 planters. When you started to put the hopper on, I was saying, “ Get the 3 grease fittings first, please”😂. 2 fittings on either side of the bottom frame on the drive shaft journals and one in the drive cog. This brings back so many memories of my Granddad and his Farmall 140. He had a mid mount planter that was a royal pain to install. He finally got a rear mount planter like yours. He sold the 140 in 1983, equipment and all for $3200. I so wished I had the money then to buy it. I loved that old 140.

Thank you Thank you, been looking for a vid like this for years. Granddad passed before he could show me how to hook up the fertilizer unit. Now i know where all these pieces i have go.

When you get finished using it be sure and wash it out good then submerge most of it in either diesel or used motor oil I use used motor oil myself because I have plenty of it available since I change my own oil in everything I have

Shouldn't be any sparks. The power is switched by the solenoid, then the starter is turning. The old pull type switch has a hot all the time wire on the starter. I really enjoy your videos and have added a subscription. I thought I already had. I am putting a fertilizer dist on a Super A, and this video is a big help. We used to run dual Cole units with 250 lb hoppers, but that been 30 years , and they are a little different. I still have both mounts and the drive clutch assy but no hoppers. Got the IH dist mounts wit a 140 parts tractor (with a freeze busted engine block).Also have a 130 and another 140 that I restoring, so your videos really help.

Your video helped a lot today. I found out what I was missing on a side dresser I picked up over the weekend in another super A I got. This makes 4 😉😁

Great videos, very helpful. Found a 48 cub in a tobacco barn in Kentucky. With it a pile of parts that turned out to be, as far as I can tell a complete 172 planter with seeder and side dresser. Over the winter got the tractor gone over and planter hooked up n running. My big question now is what seed plate do you use for sweet corn. The plate it has runs regular shelled field corn perfect but I Think may be a bit big for smaller sweet corn seed. Any thoughts?

I went back and heard what you said this time, you welded a John deer hopper bas to the fertilizer mount from a John deer 1010?
@Jtwes

What John deere hopper did you use that will work with the farmall hopper base???

If you were to remove the IH mount from its base you have a flat piece of metal left I cut that off and weld a new flat piece on that took the 1010 hopper base and mounted it to that

@jtwes or anyone else, what is the name of the long bar that is removed first (around the 20 second mark) which goes from the front lift actuator thing down back to the bar which connects to the quick hitch? I need one of those (new guy here) I been trying to plow without it lol and it doesn't work too great, thanks much appreciated
